Pledges Receive Pins Threatening clouds and chilly winds blew Iota Tau Kappa's plans for a hike and campfire supper to bits last Friday evening, and instead the pledges improvised a "Wimpy" picnic at the home of Agnes Jensen. The early part of the evening was spent playing games and singing club songs. Rose Bur-chell, accompanied on the ac-cordian by Helen Moore, introduced a new hymn which is dedicated to the club. The highlight of the evening was the formal pledging ceremony. The nine girls who took the Iota Tau Kappa pledge were Agnes Jensen, Lorene Taylor, Kathleen Jones, Lois Belnap, Gayle Seymour, Evelyn Tibbits, Va Lois Burnett, and Edith Anderson, and Luella London. Wimpy food in the form of hamburgers was served to the sponsor and twenty-two club members present. Excelsior Pledges Garner Excelsior brought home the honor once more when they annexed Hugh Garner artist. Hugh, who is the Scribulus editor for the spring quarter and is known not only for his work in the Scribulus but for his cleverly cartooned posters which the main hall is seldom without, will take the pledge at the home of their sponsor, Orlo Childs, April 13. "You're sitting on a tack," said the sophomore helpfully. "It's O. K.," said the sitter, I'm one of these dead-end kids. Why send your money out of town when a local man will give Better Service? Geo. F. Vaughn Jeweler 322 25th Street Society Vikings Holds Initial Initiations Rustic Cold Water canyon formed the setting for the unique Viking initiations Monday night. The outdoor nature background and typical picnic food were clever new features probably never used before at Weber college for a club ceremony: Club sweaters were presented to the new Vikings after the frivolous and serious initiations. Hal Morris, Sterling Wilkinson, Curtis Johnson, Don McClana-han, Chall Allred, and Ben Fowler are the six new members. Will Sponsor Hike The Vikings will sponsor a student-body hike to Mount Ogden on May 20. From Mount Ogden the hikers will trek to Malan Heights for a program and awards. A full moon will illuminate the path home. To Be Or Not To Be A. W. S., to make possible more activities for the unaffiliated girls, is considering an organization similar to the "Phra-teres" of the U. C. L. A. Phrateres is a national Greek organization for girls which was founded at the University of California at Los Angeles by Dean Laughlin. Its motto is, "Famous for Friendliness". Membership is not limited in any way and one school may have as many as ten chapters. There is no system of rushing. Dues are ten cents a month and one dollar for initiation. At some schools separate chapters are organized according to hobbies or interests. Interview With Leslie Howard By STANLEY JOHNSON "How do vou do, Mr. Howard," I squeaked. "How do you do," answered Leslie Howard, speaking from Hollywood. "Are are you going to play Ashley Wilkes in 'Gone With The Wind'?" I asked. "Yes," came the answer over the long distance wire. "Directly after this call I am going out to the Selznick studio for a screen test." It was positively the most thrilling moment of my life. To hear Leslie Howard speak to me in that soft English accent of his! It happened at the home of Mae Mann the other morning. The Hollywood columnist was reciting her experiences as an extra in the film, "Union Pacific." The telephone rang, and the operator announced that Leslie Howard, one of Mrs. Mann's best friends in the movie colony, was Hand-IaceL"featherlight! Low or i Cuban heels. By his own request, Mr. Young occupies the first position in the column this week. He intends to spend his sixth summer at the University of Michigan, biological section, near Mackinac City. He will finish his work on his thesis and take . another summer to write it up to get his doctor's degree. His life on the shore of a 'lake in a tin-roofed house is rather humdrum, he said, what with the humming of moscfiiitos and i.h- drumming of rain on the roof He is studying the subject of Limnology, which he points out "is not a study of the arms and legs, but is a study of the productivity of life in fresh water." His daily life consists of going out in a bathing suit in a boat and collecting specimens for laboratory observation. Mrs. Young will be in Salt Lake and have the "car and kids." Mrs. Tanner will probably spend six weeks in Hawaii as a guest of her sister, Mrs. Eugene Santschi, whose husband is a colonel in the army. The cafeteria menu next year will undoubtedly include Hawaiian poi and maybe a grass skirt or two. When asked how he intended to spend his summer, Mr. C. H. Anderson replied, "It all depends on whether they consider me eligible for relief. If they don't I may go to summer school in southern California." Miss Stewart is going to be put through the mills at least she is going to attend Mills college from July 1 to August 11. She will take a course at the Benington school of dance, whose faculty will include such prominent artists as Doris Humphrey, Charles Weidman, Martha Graham and Honja Holm. Lvceum Director Hurst will be in San Francisco in July. He will participate in a panel discussion on "Junior College Business Education." This versatile gentleman also intends teaching summer school at Weber and taking a course on vocational education from Walter F. Shaw at the U. of U. Clair Johnson contemplates going to summer school, probably in New York. Pulling suckers out of the swimming pool and the river will keep Mr. Swenson soused this summer. "I will be here at the gym part of the time and spend the rest attending summer school at the A. C. and fishing with Dr. Dixon, if he can spare the time," Mr. Swenson soberly disclosed. 4. Divide the number right by the number wrong and add 50. Subtract Mr. Allred's age, 25, and add the number of books on Mr. Benson's desk. If vour score is over 100, you cheated.
