Registration Thought to Surpass Previous Winter Quarter Records - ' "Registration and attendance at Weber will probably surpass previous winter quarter records by several hundred students after registration for the many new vocational and academic courses and the older courses is completed," said Dr. Henry Al-dous Dixon, president of Weber college, in a statement released to the Signpost recently. An extensive campaign to explain the values of Weber college to prospective students is currently being carried on, and if expectations are fulfilled the attendance rolls, as the college, will undoubtedly jump, said Dr. Dixon. Registration Begins Registration for the winter quarter began yesterday for sophomore students and will continue until Thursday morning for sophomores and the rest of the week for freshmen. New students and former students will make arrangements to register January 2 for the winter term which starts on January 5. The college possesses an excellent student-adviser program, according to Clarisse M. Hall, registrar, and the many benefits it can offer to the student should be taken advantage of for the fullest utilization of college work. Assigned Adviser Each student is assigned an adviser according to his major subject, and this adviser will act as counselor for the student for the student's academic quarters at the college, as well as in his personal and off-campus life df the student desires. (Cont. on page b, tjois. 4 ana O) Joyce Watts, Phyllis Parker, and Lou Jean Sneddon will vie for the title of "Phoenix Sweet heart" when club members ballot to select' one of the three contestants for presentation at the Phoenix "Snowball" dance next Friday. The dance, first semi-formal af--fvoted Phoenix sweetheart at a club-fpledges, and1 alumni of Phoenix fair of the college sooial season, wll be held in the W. C. ballroom beginning at 9 p. m. George Strom-berg reports that Bob Summers and his 15-piece "Dansante" orchestra, popular USAC musical organization, has been angaged for the dance. Annual Dance The Snowball is an annual, traditional dance, with the selection of a Phoenix sweetheart along-standing feature. This year's three candidates were chosen from several other competitors on the basis of cersonalitv. charm, and friendli ness. One of the three girls will be meeting this week. She will be present during a special intermission during the dance, and will be given a locket by club president J. R. Allred as an award for her selection. Hurst General Chairman Dean Hurst is general chairman for the dance, heading various committees which are arranging the Snowball details. Pete Lafon, who heads the decoration committee, reports that in keeping with the "Snowball" theme, paper-mache replicas of giant snowballs will adorn the ballroom as part of the decorations. Following hte dance, members, Yuletide Dreams and their dates, will honor the newly-selected club sweetheart at a banquet at Ma's and Pa's, Roy. The "Snowball' is th second in the 1947-48 series of social activities at Weber college which began December 6 with the annual Collegiate Promenade, sponsored by Alpha Rho Omega. The season will continue after the holidays with Frenisti's annual Mardi Gras January 17 and Tiki Kapa Kapa's "Candy Land" dance, slated for January 23. Tickets for the Snowball cost $1.50 per couple, and may be purchased from any Phoenix member or pledge. Christmas dreams, winter wonderlands, chubby Santa Claus's, and Christmas carols fill pretty Louise Hobb's mind as the yule season takes hold of the minds and actions of Weberiles. Christmas holidays begin with chances for yuletide cheei, heartfelt giving and resolutions dominating thrir actions.
