Those who have criticised the Herald's policy as it stands at present have not presented an alternative policy. But we recognize the justness of the criticism and so propose our own al-ternat i ve. They demand that the student body shall have a voice in the selection of the Herald's editors. Since elections for positions of this sort, wnere efficiency is more dependent on skill than on popularity, are notoriously bad, we assume they mean that the board of control shall make the selections. The English department believes that it can best judge the ability of the candidates;- it believes that the editor and his associates should necessarily be given the advantage of a twelve weeks' course in the theory or journalism. Therefore, it reserves the right to nominate to the board of control's consideration members of the journalism class, and to limit that board's selections to the nominations of the department. The English department has already conceded that the staff exclusive of the editor and its associates shall be open to all students. It is now willing to let the board of control select the editor and his associates from the English faculty's nominations. Does this plan appear just to the eminent critics who have attacked our pol i cy? o NEW OFFICERS: Roy Ross was recently elected president, Kathleen Foulger vice-president, and Lowell James secretary of the International Relations club for next year. At a previouo meeting a resolution favoring the present League was defeated. Members of the club turned their attention from international relations to a hike May 7. o SCHOLARSHIPS: The Agricultural college at Logan is offering one scholarship to Weber this year. Three students, Jean Danvers, Lulu Hodgson and Arnold Vincenti, have been selected as candidates for the scholarship, but the winner has not been chosen. The Universitv of Chicago. gave a competitive examination for a scholarship to Weber students . May 5 at 9 o'clock. Sixteen applicants took the test, according to Mrs. Hail.
