Show For summer eats take a stroll down 25th Street ByJESICAMEDILLIN correspondent | The Signpost 25th Street has become a place of diversity and ethnicity for Ogden and offers a wide range of foods and activities. Shin Sei offers a range of delicacies from fresh sushi to tempura-cooked seafood and vegetables. The owners, brother-and-sister team Joe and April Boupha, started the little restaurant on a whim and thought it might work in downtown Ogden. joe, the cook in the family, came to April with the idea, and they sank all of their money into just opening the sushi bar. After making money on the bar, they were able to redesign and finish the kitchen and then move into the back, where they finished the Japanese-style rooms. Now they are working on opening a gift shop next to the restaurant that will offer Oriental-themed gifts and home ddcor. Sushi is very healthy and lighter than most meals. A common misconception is that sushi is raw fish but it is actually a term used for the rice and the wrapping technique combined. "Sushi means 'what makes you happy,'" April said. The sushi that Shin Sei offers is farm-raised and safe, but those who just can't handle sushi and still want an ethnic meal can always head down to the Athenian for Greek cuisine. The Athenian, owned and operated by Phyllis Visser, has •/ 'It's just a unique place for people to come down and enjoy themselves where you can get about anything/ like the Adam and Eve sandwich that is made with every vegetable in the world/' - Berk Tuttle, Zenger's manager been open for 14 years, seven years on 28th Street and seven on 25th. Visser, whose mother is from Greece, started by just making pastries, then expanded into a full restaurant. "Greek culture has a big following in Utah because there is a big Greek culture in here." Visser said. Since not everyone is as adventurous, The Athenian also offers traditional American food. Summertime means restaurant patrons can opt for the patio; as an alternative, The Athenian also offers candlelit dining upstairs. On Thursday evenings, the restaurant has belly dancers who perform throughout the restaurant from 7:30 p.m. till around 9 or 9:30. Summer school Michael Jolley, a frequent customer at Shin Sei Sushi on 25th Street, enjoys sushi prepared by chef Adam Crawford. just a short distance down from The Athenian, 25th Streetgoers can grab a sandwich or pasta salad from Zenger's; the owners also co-own Great Harvest Bread Company next door. All of the ingredients are fresh. The meat and cheeses are hand-sliced, the bread is passed through the kitchen from Great Harvest to Zenger's, and the produce is bought fresh from Carlo's Produce. The atmosphere in Zenger's is Seattle art shop meets Ann Arbor delicatessen. Local art adorns the walls and is ever changing, as is the unique menu.
