Show C.-.nW.t -A Look Inside 19S7-SS WSC experience is microcosm of life, world, future What arc the most exciting and important things that have happened this year at Weber State College? In reality, the events that shaped our campus are just a microcosm of the events that shape our nation and world. And the way we live our lives today is a perfect example of how we will react in the future. This year was a year of new experiences. As we watched the Wildcat football team carry a winning record for the school for the first time in rcccr.r memory, it reminded me of one of the purposes of competitive sports as did the losing basketball team: to teach us all of winning, losing, rooting for the underdog, and that we can survive those little losses that plague us in life. MICROCOSM - a little ASWSC activities provided us with a microcosmic look at our world. There were successes and failures, and those students who participated learned lessons that will help them in the future. It was impressive to see these student leaders run their programs in the face of fiscal restraint, just like the "big" boys at the state legislature. Many of the professional activities grew up in a sense this year. Programs WkcWeber Studies, NUS AT and AMS AT, the Metaphor, as well as other academic What WSC events this past year stand out the most for you? v xrz : . : "I believe the most significant event was getting the computer labs. From student funding we have acquired labs that can benefit Weber S tate College as a whole for many years to come." Kristen Olsen 1988-89 Vice President of Activities, Services and Organizations "KWCR trptt:ncT vrr - . . o o approval for 3,000 watts." Morgan Cloward KWCR FM station manager i Ki ' c: world; a world in miniature. " t j V " 4,., "It is a difficult choice ' for me, among WSC's hosting the national debate , tournament, the finish of the football team, and the re-writing of the WSC mission statement." Randy Scott Department of Communication Chairman mT.mm, . a, j I 1 J ' - ' . i n LJ "The centralization of all student employment out of one office (Career Services)." Dr. Steven H. Eichmeier Career Services Director programs became even more widely known and esteemed. Even the mission statement needed revamping, just as many "mission statements" around the world need changing. Every daily experience at WSC can be looked back on with a certain amount of satisfaction. A trudge up to the Lind Lecture Hall, even though you would rather be home in bed, makes a statement about your personality and.willingncss to work through adversity. A success in English 101 is a signal of success in the future if the same principles arc applied. When Weber State enters into an agreement with a major company that benefits all students, it says something good about what the "mission" of this school really is. As members of the Signpost look back on the 1987-88 year, we saw each of our issues as a microcosmic view of the world. Each Convocation speaker, organization announcement and track meet result ... all combined to give us, and our readers the sense of progress and accomplishment. We look pride in getting you the information as quickly and accurately as we could. The college paper is a little microcosm of what our future careers will be like, just as other majors begin to get a taste of what the future holds for them. A dreamer could enlarge our little campus community and possibly see what the future will be like in a few years. The student senators of this year may someday be our national congressional leaders. Sports and variety figures from WSC could very well demand the silver screen all around the world. Each one of us will have graduated into our niche in society. Although the analogy is fairly simple, each act we play builds a part of the future, and our little bit part mirrors the game of life. Chris J. Miller i :yi H . "The ASVSC election results. The people we have in office for next year will have a great effect on the outcome of our centennial year." Rich Hoggan ASWSC Arts and Humanities Senator "Weber State will be operating the Master of Education program independently beginning July 1." Dr. Richard Sadler Dean of the School of Social Science i '' "The firing of Coach Larry Farmer, especially since he recruited me to the team." Paxton "Moochie Cobb" WSC basketball team point guard "The feel that the '87 football team made a tremendous contribution to WSC through unifying the community and bringing national attention to WSC." Angus Stewart Maclnnes WSC football team captain -.-y.-Kf.r-y. "WSC being granted exclusive control over the Master of Education program. That should improve the efficiency fo the educational programs in the state and establish additional evidence of the quality and ability of the Weber State to deliver quality graduate education in areas consistent with our role and mission." Allen Simkins WSC Vice President of Business Affairs Interviews and photos bv Kevin Lucas S , ' T ' M wmsm siililpiiilt waSmtt. u "Once again we're in a budget crunch and the faculty will not receive any type of raise. Some course offerings have been eliminated, programs cut back, and faculty have left WSC, etc. etc. The educational objectives and goals of the college are deteriorating instead of getting better and the future doesn't look brighter."
