Show Page 4 SIGNPOST February 21, 1964 AM A 's By Janet Lund LUDI ROMANO TO BE HELD NEXT WEEK PREFERRED MAN, BEST DRESSER TO BE CHOSEN Yes, Bob, Ludi Romano, literally translated from the Latin, means Roman Games. This was the big Roman holiday. There were games every weekend, just like in the American universities today, but they held a different sort of games. Gladiators and Christian-eating animals were the main attraction, with wrestling matches, races, and javelin and discus contests among the young athletic citizens. The celebration was a six-day holiday. Quite an event. Well, Weber is presenting Ludi Romano but, unfortunately, it will not be a six-day holiday. Ludi Romano will be the one evening of Friday, February 28. We cannot present gladiators and lions or javelin and discus contests and races, but we can give you a romantic Roman night, with a little imagination, in the Union Building Ballroom. As is the custom in Rome, Caesar and his consorts will preside over the events. As is the custom at Weber State College, the women students will vote to determine who will receive that honor. The original candidates were Val Lasko, Jim Boswell, Jon O'Dell, John Silbernagel, Doug Cox, Jim Mann, Ed Freestone, Doug Olson, Ed Graves, Jim S. Jacobs, Mike Phillips, Ed Linde-man, John Hale, and Mike Gougler. From these 15 candidates, a smaller number were chosen in the primaries last Tuesday. Girls will vote for Caesar and his two consorts at the door. Ludi Romano, the 1964 Preference Dance, will be semi-formal. If you wish to wear those beautiful floor-length gowns, wear them, but cocktail dresses will be acceptable. The Star-dusters, Weber's inimitable dance band, will provide the music for the affair. Tickets will be two dollars ($2) and can be purchased at the main desk or at the door on the evening of the dance. Girls, if you haven't gone through the routine at the Dean of Women's office, you can still invite your man. Those formal invitations are nice, but not necessary. Just ask him. He'll be happy you did, and so will You. To a Concerned Reader: Regarding last week's column . . . Rest assured! I am a faithful member of the LDS Church, I pay my ten per cent, and I did not, as you blithely assume, take a deliberate pot-shot at the dignified person of President McKay. An intelligent person would take it for granted that the name of the head of a prominent organization sometimes takes on the same identity as that organization. As this is a signed column, you apparently know where to send your opinions. It would be greatly appreciated if you would show me the courtesy of signing any future letters. Nothing is accepted with more reluctance and greater contempt than an anonymous letter. No man has the right to hold an opinion if he does not have the courage to let it be known WHO holds that opinion. OTYOKWA March 3 is the date of the annual Friendship Banquet sponsored by OT this year. We invite all girls to attend. The freshman class secretary, Helen Can-, plans her clothes so that each piece she has will coordinate with her other clothes.
