The royal trio will reign over the events of the coming week. : x ST8 v r' Miss Christofferson -r A "' V ' - '- X Miss Grange t , l y HA, Miss Mason Miss Borklund Miss Wintenbottom CSS - i Homecoming Royalty To Be Revealed At Soph Class Dance By Jill Bateman Homecoming Queen and her two attendants will be announced tonight during intermission at the Sophomore Dance. The dance will be held in the Weber College Ballroom on lower campus and will begin at 9:00 P.M. The Ed Stoker Combo from Salt Lake City will furnish the music. This affair is date and admittance will be $1.00 per couple; to be paid at the door. Tickets will not be sold beforehand. Best dress will be in order heels and hose for the girls, coats and ties for the men. New Dance This is a new dance on the Weber College agenda this year and is sponsored by the Sophomore Class. The entire student-body is invited. These leading the Sophomore activities this year are: Norman Bramble, president; Jill Bateman, vice president; Sally Mason, secretary; Carolyn Sommers, historian; and Dave Stromberg, representative. The six finalists for Homecoming Queen are: Karen Winter-bottom, Karin Borklund, Sally Mason, Joan McFarland, Penny Christofferson, and Linda Grange. These six candidates were selected from a field of fourteen by members of the student body. The turnout at the polls was the largest in' the history of Weber College for a Homecoming Queen vote. Associated Men Students headed by Glen Palmer, Gordon Affleck, and Jon Collins are in charge of the Homecoming events. Party, Hike Slate Miss McFarland Phoenix, Sharmea Capture Top Grade Points Phoenix Fraternity led the men s clubs scholastically spring quarter with a 2.74 average, and Sharmea topped the women's clubs with a 3.12 average. In keeping with the policy approved by the Board of Control two years ago, that of presenting a trophy each quarter to the soc ial clubs attaining the highest grade point average, the spring quarter trophies will be awarded to Phoenix and to Sharmea. Sigma Delta Pi and Excelsior followed Phoenix with a 2.37 and a 2.36, respectively. Stratford Commends Clubs Dr. Stratford, Dean of Men, commended the men's clubs on their over-all averages, but added, "As good as these averages may be, this is a distinct challenge to all of the actives and future pledges to raise the averages considerably."Behind Sharmea were Takai Kyoto with a 2.97 average, La Dianaeda with , a 2.94, and Otyo kwa with a 2.88. By Linda Ritchie Signpost Staff Writer The Beard of Control has scheduled the following events for Homecoming Week, October 10-15:Jay Livingood of KVOG will be at the college ballroom on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 9 p. m. He will conduct a Platter Party with spot dances. Flaming 'W Hike At 6:30 Friday, the AMS will lead the "Flaming W" hike. Upon return, there will be entertainment and refreshments, followed by a pep rally. Each social organization will enter a float in the homecoming parade. These will be judged Saturday at 12 noon. That night at 8 o'clock in the college stadium the Wildcats tangle with the Boise Broncos. The north section of the east side will be reserved for college stu dents. Completing the week's activ ities, the homecoming dance will be held in the college ballroom at 9:30 following the game. Math Instructors Join W.C. Staff Three new instructors have joined the Physical Science Department this year. They are J. David Hepworth, Dick P. Rogers and Dr. Dallas O. Peterson. Mr. Rogers is in the mathematics division and has just completed his Master's Degree at Utah State University. He was a student teacher and also did graduate work there. Mr. Hepworth is also in the division of mathematics and has been in graduate work and student teaching. Dr. Peterson's departments are Physical Science General Education and Geology. He has his Ph.D. in Geology and has come from Chico State College in California where he was teaching. Absent from the Physical Science staff this year is Newel B. Cutler. He is at Utah State University doing graduate work, but will return next year. |
