From that time on the game was evenly fought. A series of pass interceptions by the nimble Bill Stettler for Sigma and Excel's Brent Palmer lined up the tight game. Their win puts Sigma in first place in the tournament. IM golfing started this week. Results of the opening games were not available at press time but the scheduled games revealed that the participation was good. Friday's win was a must for both teams since a loss would have put Weber out of contention and a loss for the Rebels dropped them to second place. Percentages for Weber This win moved Weber into a tie with Boise and a definite advantage over the other ICAC leaders. With Dixie and Boise having only four conference games and Weber playing five the percentage advantage . is with the Cats. If the Wildcats win their two remaining conference tilts they will have sole possession of the ICAC crown for the first time in history. Weber started out with a bang last Friday by scoring on the first series of plays after Dixie was forced to kick by a tough Weber defense. Terry Van Fleet carried the ball into end zone for the first big TD. The conversion try was cut short by the Rebels. Cats Stopped at One Inch The Cats again forced the Rebels to punt and drove to the one-inch line only to be stopped by the spirited Dixie line. The Cats threatened once more but were unable to score until just before the half when Brent Hancock threw a 33-yard pass to Lynn Corbridge to make the intermission score 13-0 for Weber. A spirited Weber team faced a revitalized Dixie squad in the second half. Rebels Score Weber received the kickoff and proceeded to move down the field with a sharp ground game. A fumble gave Dixie the ball in the mid-field. The Rebel's big fullback, Andrus, began to chewing off good yardage. The big back moved into the end-zone but was repelled on the extra point try to leave the score 13-11. Weber took one of Dixie's unusually short punts in the third quarter to set up another Cat score. This time it was Lewayne Thomas diving- in for the six points. Hancock who had kicked the extra point on the previous touchdown again was successful in the try for the extra point. 70-yard Run The Rebels feeling the pressure ran the kickoff to the 30-yard line. In the next play the Dixie end, Brinton shook off his defenders, received a jump pass over center, and ran the remaining TO yards for the touchdown. Once again the Weber defense held the extra point try. With a comfortable lead and time running out the Weber team played with less strain as Melvin Brooks scampered across the goal for another half dozen points for Weber. The extra point was no good. The game ended with a 20-12 score. Weber had defeated the leaders of the ICAC and moved into a tie for first place. Two more league games to win and the Cats will boast a champ-ionshio team. -I NEED A TRAILER HITCH?
