Purses Contain Lots of Things By Norman Bramble Signpost Staff Writer Hanging from the arm, swinging from the shoulder, of nestled in the hand of every girl on campus is an indispensible part of the female wardrobe known as a purse. For each co-ed on campus this handy article serves a different purpose. Some use theirs as a first aid kit with a bottle of aspirin, a box of No-doz, and a jeweled pill box containing sul-fer pills for infected kidneys. Others use theirs as a brief case with books, paper, looseleaf, pen, pencils, paper punch, stapler, and a large marble paper weight. . The three major types of popular purses on campus are: 1. Those limp purses which fold in half to take on an appearance of a folded pancake. 2. The stiff column of leather with limp flaps that fold across the top. 3. The various sized square purses with zippers. Although the largest number fall into these three categories there are a few odd and interesting purses such as: Dienna Champney's large tan purse styled after a pony express mail bag; Kathy Reeder's ivy league waste-paper basket with a large buckled belt; Sydney Gynt's silk brocaded evening clutch purse; Karen Borklund's trapazoidial yardstick By Susan Brown Signpost Society Editor Sunday afternoon the four women's social clubs welcomed new pledges at their Acceptance Teas. After receiving a bid in the mail the rushees attended the tea of their preferred club and made it known that they wanted to become a member. The following girls are to be congratulated on being accepted into Sharmea, Otyokwa, Takai Kyoto, and La Dianaeda. SHARMEA: Jill Bateman, Frances Carr, Julie Carr, Anelda Cash- case; Gayle Ledingham's diaper bag; and Marlena Harris' wonderful purse with only one draw string. The interest and facination of purses does not end with the outward appearance but extends to the dark interiors and the exotic contents. Susan Brown carries used shotgun shell filled with BB's, Myrna Woolsey packs a mirror, and Jane Ann Asay has a speeding ticket. In her lunch box shaped purse Kathryn Ann Cowley carries a pair of ear muffs. Yes, everything and anything can be found in a girl's purse. They have been adapted to serve as desks, wardrobe closets, lunch boxes, brief cases, first aid kits, pillows, suit case, and tool boxes. Who knows what the future may hold; even larger and more oddly shaped purses which will be even more versatile than the contemporary models. Supplies for . . .
