Dixie scored its biggest victory of the season last week when it beat College of Southern Utah in the "ax" game at St. George. That game was a traditional rivalry game between the two schools. The scouting reports on Dixie show that Coach Sark Arslanian's club likes to throw the ball a great deal. It hasn't the size it has Football In Full Swing The Men's Intramural Footbal' Double Elimination Tournament is well under-way with a strong team from Sigma leading the field In recent games, Sigma B eliminated once-beated Lamba Delta Sigma, 7-0. Davis County elimination once-beated Phoenix, 13-6 on the strength of two fine catches by Ed Tillman of long passes. Better Game In one of the better games of the tournament, the A team of Sigma blanked the A team of Excelsior, 13-0. Lynn Hadficld passed to Dan Hinckley for a first half TD and then hit Dob Duncan in the second half to earn the victory. IM Director, Ray Rhead, has stated that golf scores must be turned in by next Monday to be eligible for fall golf. Cross Country Mr. Rhead would also like to remind IM participants of the upcoming cross country race to be held at a future Weber home foot-hall game. Officials Class A six-week course in basketball game officiating will be given by the Weber College evening school, beginning Oct. 24. The class will meet each Monday and Wednesday, from 7 to 9 p.m., in room 519 upper campus, and later on, at the college gymnasium. The class instructor is Don Andrews, who has been officiating at high school and college basketball games for many years. He has taught the Weber classes for several seasons. Fee and credit hours are the same as in past years, said Marvin J. Peterson, evening school coordinator. had in years past, but there is fine speed in halfbacks Ronnie Wilson and Max Jones. Merrill Brinton is the No. 1 quarterback for the Rebels, and although he does a very good job, he has not filled the shoes of Richard Hafen, a junior college All-American a year ago. Same Lineup Coach Nalder said he would stick with his same starting offensive lineup of Glen Clark (175) and Marlin Brooks (170) at ends, Mose Watkins (215) and Ralph Busco (200) at tackles, Gary Hansen (170) and John Allen Page (190) at guards, Jack Herst (205) at center and Lynn Smith (165) at quarterback, Ken Cullars (165) and terry VanVleet (185) at halfbacks, and Dennis Kanter (205) at fullback. Nalder aLso said his defensive unit would be the same with the exception of Scott Rothey at end if Brent Brown who received a hip bruise in the Boise game is unable to play. Dixie Starters Dixie coach Arslanian, started Howard Brinton (172) and Bruce Church (205) at ends, Dennis Dahl (186) and Joe Dennison (215) at tackles, Harold Holbrook (178) and Roger Murray (194) at guards, George Staheli (173) at center, Merrill Brinton (170) at quarterback, Ronnie Wilson (163) and Max Jones (176) at halfbacks and Kent Garfield (188) at fullback. In other games played in the ICAC last week, Carbon beat Eastern Arizona, 34-14, in a practice game; Dixie moved into second plase with a 2-1 record on a 14-7 win over College of Southern Utah. Ricks increased its record to 1-2 with a 29-19 win over Snow at Ephriam. Other Games In games played this week, Boise figured to have a breather when they hosted the Gila Monsters from Eastern Arizona Junior College. This team was whipped by the Carbon Eagles, a 54-0 victim of Boise, so Eastern isn't expected to give mighty Broncos much trouble. College of Southern Utah travels to Ephriam for a game with the Snow Badgers while the other league game finds Carbon at Ricks. His two conversions in the third per iod provided the winning margin as Boise edged Weber, 26-24. The Wildcats matched the Broncos touchdown for touchdown, but they couldn't convert the extra point on a single one. Homecoming A homecoming crowd of close to 3,000 fans saw the two Bronco Hawiian backs, Tailback Frank Kaaa and fulback Frank Purdy, time and again grind out huge chunks of yardage, almost at will Boise scored first in the opening period when Purdy took a hand-off from Kaaa and streaked off tackle for a 35-yard TD jaunt. The try for point was no good. But Weber was not to be denied. The Wildcats took the kickoff on the twenty where Quarterback Lynn Smith rolled out around the left end, picked up a few key blocks and romped the entire distance for the first Wildcat TD. The kickoff was no good, and the score stood at 6-6. The Broncos took over once again after the kickoff as they brought the ball up to the Boise 34. On the first play from scrimmage, Frank Kaaa cracked up the middle and outran the Weber secondary, for 66 yards and the second Boise touchdown. The conversion attempt was fruitless, and the first quarter ended with the Broncos in front, 12-6. Interception At the beginning of the second period, Lynn Corbidge intercepted a Boise aerial on the Weber 25 and made a brilliant run-back to the Bronco's 37 yard line. A first down put the ball on the 28, where Ken Cullars picked up 12 more yards and another first down. The Wildcats carried it down to the7, and Fullback Dennis Kanter bulled his way into the end zone to tie the score at 12-12 as the second Weber try for point failed. The half ended after both teams had shown some nice gains but were held when they got near the goal. Boise r.eceived the second half kickoff and started a drive from their own 37. Their strong ground game pushed the Wildcats back to their own five yard line where second string Tailback Francis Meyer skirted around right end for a Bronco score. Meyer then kicked off his shoe and booted the extra point as Boise took the lead 19-12. Long Pass ! Weber took the kickoff on their own 29 and moved the ballyup to the Boise 45 yard line on a series of ground gamers. Then Quarterback Smith faded back and hit Ken Cullars on a long pass, and the speedy halfback scored untouched to close the gap to 19-18. Weber kicked the ball into the Boise end zone, and the Broncs took over on the 20. Tailback Frank Kaaa again burst through the middle of the Weber line and outran the secondary for the winning touchdown on an 80-yard run. Francis Meyer, again shoeless kicked the extra point to close out the Boise scoring as they led, 26-18, at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Ken Cullars took a Boise punt on the Weber 8 and rambled back to the 48. A pass from Smith to Kanter took the ball to the Boise 17. The Wildcats punched the ball to the six where quarterback Smith again roled out and around left end for the final Weber score. The fourth successive try for point was no good and the score stood at 26-24. Title Clinched The victory virtually clinched the ICAC title for the Broncos as many enthusiasts agreed that Weber was the only possibility for a Boise unset this year. In the fourteen years that Weber and Boise have been meeting on the gridiron, Weber has never scored a single victory. Last year was the first time during those fourteen years that Boise hasn't won the ICAC football championship. With Weber adjusting into its schedule to swing into four-year college sports, last week's game will be the final appearance of a Boise football team in Ogden. Next years' game at Boise will be the final meeting between the two schools, and one can here many members of the Wildcat team saying, "Wait till next year!" The Statistics show an indication of the Boise power.
