Show Page 4 WEBER COLLEGE OGDEN, UTAH FEBRUARY 28, 1958 Vol. XXI No. 25 signpost Snorts JL Ron Ballantyne went on a second-half scoring-splurge and batted close to 1.000 on his shots to give Sigma a 45-27 win over Excelsior in the championship intramural basketball game last Tuesday. Monday the Faculty team bested another Excelsior team 32-17 to cop third place. Ballantyne was hotter than a Russian in Cuba as he hit from every corner of the floor to rack up 24 points, high for the game. Alan Keeder played only part of the game, yet dunked fc to take high point honors for Ji,xcels. Tn thp Mnnrlav fame Rav Rhead paced faculty witn 10 points while the best Excels couia uo was live each for Roger Cox and Jerry Hogge. Championship In the championship game both teams traded Daskets for most of tne- fu-st half with Sigma leaving rh tlnor ahead by three, 18-10. The second half started slowly but both teams throwing the ban away without getting a clean shot at the basket. Ballantyne, a former University of Utah varsity player, took charge of his team and the game after that. Sigma's had the advantage of better rebounding and that, along with Ballantyne's scoring, was the difference. According to unofficial sources the ICAC champion will play the Arizona winner somewhere in ICAC territory, which would make Ogden the site should the Wildcats win. Again from the point of pure conjecture, Weber could possibly end up playing the Arizona team at either Ben Lomond or Ogden High Schools. Weber Boise . Ricks CSU-Dixie . Snow Carbon ICAC STANDINGS W. T. 0 0 2 1 By Larry Tomlinson Signpost Sports Editor Like the Blackjack dealer who holds two face cards, Weber College's basketball team is standing pat in this year's ICAC title race. The Cats' have two remaining games on the schedule and can salt away the championship by beating Snow College tonight and Boise College tomorrow night. Both games start at 8 p. m. The Snow contest should prove no hurdle to Coach Bruce Larson's talented team, but the Boise game is one fans and the team alike have awaited all year. The Broncos' are tied with Weber for the ICAC lead, both teams with 8-2 records. However, the game is here in Ogden and so far this year no team has beaten the Cats' in the 25th Street arena. It will take a Blackjack or perfect hand by Boise if the Broncos' are to successfully defend their ICAC championship. After the Weber game, Boise must journey to Rexburg for a game against the home-standing Ricks' College team that can ba mighty tough on any given night. Playoffs Should Weber beat Snow and Boise and cop the ICAC title (and it seems somewhat probable at this time) then the Catsr will play a team from Arizona for the opportunity to represent this area in the National Junior College basketball playoffs in Hutchison, Kansas, next month. 0 0 0 0 Totals 10 11 7 27 FACULTY Rhead Gardner .
