See You At Either blue 4200 COMBE'S FOR THE BEST A final story about Lincoln goes back to his Illinois period when he got into the argument with a judge on the merits of horses. To prove his point Abe offered to swap horses with the judge, sight unseen. Off went the judge with a gleam in his eye. He returned to the agreed-on meeting place where a crowd had gathered. The horse he led was a skinny, pathetic old nag, blind in both eyes. Obviously he expected to get the best of the trade. No horse could be more decrepit than this one. Then Lincoln appeared with his horse a carpenter's saw horse on his shoulder. He set it down and took a long look at the judge's nag. "Well, Judge," he drawled, "this is the first time I ever got the worst of it in a horse trade." If one stops and analyzes , this weather actually determines a great deal how we act, feel and behave. For instance, this bad weather we've been experiencing lately has changed our whole outlook on life. "Should I ride the snowplow to school, or should I wear fishing boots and walk?" "Should I park in a red zone and say that I couldn't see that it was red because the show covered it?" "Should I sluff class and pretend that the roads were too slick and my ear wouldn't make it up the hill?" Such drastic decisions as these must be made due to the weather. We can't be too critical though, the weather does wonders for the girls' hair (that long straggly look is very popular this year). If there isn't time for you to wash your hair before coming to school, bring- your shampoo and stand by Building 4 rainwater makes hair beautiful. Oh well, everything isn't this bad. We'll just have to suffer until spring comes (about June). At least the skiers like it. LAST WORD: I understand that they are offering boating service from Building .'3 to the Institute special rates for students. NEED SEAT COVERS? Dr. Robert A. Clarke, chairman, nd faculty members represent-lg each of the departments have let several times insub-commit-3e meetings to discuss the Register Says Service Officer Colonel Evan P. Clay, Utah State Director of Selective Service, has issued a reminder to all young men that federal law requires them to register with Selective Service within five (5) days after attaining their ISth birthday. Late registration or failure to register may well result in the young man being declared a delinquent under the Selective Service Law. As a delinquent he may be subjected to immediate induction in the Armed Forces without regard to his age or other circumstances. In addition, willful failure to register may well result in criminal prosecution and possible heavy fine and imprisonment. All young men who are IN years of age should report to their nearest Local Selective Service Board. Any person who is prevented from registering within the five-day pe riod by circumstances beyond his j control should as soon as possible j bring the matter to the attention I of the Board. I Being a member of the National j Guard or other Reserve compon- j ents does not relieve a man of his j obligation to register. "Many problems are evident," said Wilma Grose, librarian. In the past there has been no emphasis placed on technical journals although the basic reference collection is very good. There has been no demand for these journals. Good Collection The book collection is also good for the present needs. 3O,0O( volumes are in circulation, plus 10,-000 volumes in the Howe library. To bring this collection up to the requirements, of the further system it must be enlarged to 100,-00( volumes. "We hope to get help and guidance from the senior institutions in adjusting to the four-year program," Miss Grose said. In four or five years a new library building will relieve the cramped for space situation. Right now the study space is not large enough to serve the students, and stacks areas are depleated. The staff recognizes these problems, but still are very enthusias- ' tic about the future. ELMO'S CYCLERY BSA - Dunlap - Ducati Motorcycles Chushman Scooters Schwinn Bicycles 2916 Wash.
