The Ogden hoopsters took the first game from the "Wyo-men" in a thrilling battle 62-58. Volleyball Starts In Intramurals Intramural volleyball got underway Monday, February 16, with the Phoenix outfit taking a close win from Viking to narrow the field to eight teams in the single elimination tourney. Even without Frank's ever dependable points the Wildcats did rather well last week with double wins over a previously touted Casper, Wyoming five. Touted Team The baby Cougars from down Provo way arc heralded as one of the greatest freshman quints assembled at an intermountain college in recent years. Included in the "Y" roster are Kent Durrant, six foot-six inch, all-stater last year from American Fork high school, and Donald Malmrose, quite well known to local critics as a sensational all-state forward in 1947 from Box Elder. The great varsity squad at Young U. this year plus this outstanding frosh aggregation gives rise to a possible prediction of a banner era of basketball now beginning at BYU. In the Saturday battle coach Swenson's boys meet a Ricks squad that is bound and determined to gain a spot in the coveted Compton tourney in March. With the Weberites having already been handed an invitation to the meet, nothing would boost Ricks prestige more than to knock off the Wildcats. Stone Out? With Hazen back in the fold Swenson's probable starters will be Kenny Berrett in the post, with Hazen and Wilbur Braithwaite at forwards, and Harv Stone and Rab Watts at the guard slots. Stone remains something of a question mark, as of late he has been suffering with a mild case of the California bred virus X. 1 7"iWN ' ; ; ' I $&& f - s A wx m & XMW - vv? , ..
