According to Cal Roper of University Dining Services, the Gallery is still open and serving food, but the bakery and dish washing area are closed off. The hot food usually served in tine Main Event section and the baked goods will be cooked in tine cafeteria in Promontory Tower and brought over. Roper said the construction should be finished on the third or fourth week of September. "We started in June right when school got out and were supposed to be done in eight weeks," Roper said, "but we're not where we are supposed to be with construction. That seems to happen with construction on campus a lot" The dining area of the Gallery has been remodeled and now has new carpet, fresh wallpaper and school spirit purple trim which is ready for use. Since the dish washing facilities aren't ready, customers are asked to dump their trash in the bins and stack their trays on top of the bins for washing. The Gallery is using disposable dishes and utensils to make cleaning easier and cheaper. Roper said they plan to continue to use disposable dishes even alter the kitchen is finished and that the dishes are environment friendly. When the cafeteria is done an accumulator, a circular bin with five slots to hold trays which goes around, will collect the trays for the customers. "It should eliminate the backup we used to get with the straight conveyor belt we used to have," Roper said. Construction isn't the only change at University Dining Services, Doughboys will no longer be serving their thick slices of bread on campus. Roper sa id the stand near the bookstore may be used as an expresso bar later in the semester. Subway was replaced with Subcity over the summer, but Subway renewed their contract and is back for the year. Also new, University Dining Services did a survey and found that many people would like to have hot sandwiches offered, so di ffcrent hot deli sandwiches will be served at the Main Event Roper said he plans to have a comment board in the Gallery and Junction for customers to add their suggestions. "We want something more than 'The food sucks,"' he said. "Be specific." Other changes may take place later in the year, such as frequency cards and nutrition-in-wcllness tips. f u:;r- ) r. I - .
