Well, one thing student fees are allocated for is computer labs. According to Debra Rashid, a student and computer lab coordinator at Weber State College, the student fees which pay for the labs are well spent She remembers when she had to hunt all over campus for a typewriter. Many of the computer labs have word processing which not only eliminate the need for a typewriter but are much more convenient as well. There are several computer labs at Weber State. Since they are operated on student fees, any student can use any lab, although some labs are frequented more by some students than others. For instance, the Business Lab found in the Wattis Business Building room 203, is mainly for business students. It is reserved first for students of C170 (a computer course). Then, if. there are any open computers, other students may use them. This lab supports business applications of all types -- spreadsheets, database systems, word processing, statistics. There are 35 IBM compatible pc's, including many. AT, type computers that can be used in ! this lab.' Users are expected to learn how to operate the computers in classes offered through the business curriculum. The hours at the Business Lab are: Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m.; Friday, 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Saturday, 8:30-3 p.m.: There are lab aids at all hours to help students with problems they may incur. The Math Lab in Building Four, room 518 is another lab that is available to all WSC students. However, it is used mostly by math students. A range of services from elementary math applications for student teachers, to advanced software for senior math majors is available in the Math lab. The lab includes pc's, small minicomputers and connections to the main campus VAX. This is the site of the graphics language LOGO and its program -driven turtle. The hours for the Math lab during the regular school year (autumn, winter and spring quarters) are: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There are no set hours for the Math lab during summer quarter. The Natural Science lab is located in the Science Building. Operating hours are: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Once again, most students are from the School of Science. The School of Technology has several computer labs. In Building Two the computer science students leam their art. Many microcomputers, with a total of over 100 workstations are available. Many programming languages, graphics systems, artificial intelligence development systems and other software services are available. The Social Science Writing lab is in the Social Science building, rooms 38-40. There, computer support for writing and v. ' ' J 'M A . This lab is used mostly for software courses taught through Business EdSecretarial Sciences. There is a lab for Automotive Mechanical Engineering Technology. The Manufacturing department has the CADCAM lab which is for computer aided designcomputer aided manufacturing and leads to the CIM (computer integrated manufacturing). There is another small lab near the CADCAM lab that can be used for blueprints and estimating. There is also a numerical control lab. The Technology labs are mostly for use by students of technology. There are two labs in the Tech Ed building, as well, used for computer science courses. One of those is located in rooms 103-109. It is the largest and oldest lab where most Weber students are introduced to computers and where serious Writing Assistance Center in the Social Science Building. Summer hours' at the" SS Writing lab are: Monday and Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday-through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m, Saturday,' 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday,r:foon to 4 p.m. There are lab assistants available and the Writing Assistance Center coordinates its work with this lab. Last but not least is the Macintosh Lab in the Browning Center room 452. Orientations are given every week of each quarter with a different software application each tune. Many professors give their classes orientations, also.
