Show 6 Signpost Tuesday, July 12, 1988 Drum and buglecompetition highlights national talent The Corp Encore Drum and Bugle Corps Competition is scheduled July 18, at 8 p.m., in the Wildcat Stadium at Weber State College. This is the eighth season the groups have appeared in Ogden. Over 8,000 people have attended the past two years. "This year's show promises to provide as unforgettable summertime spectacle of sight and sounds," said Tom Root, director of bands at WSC. There are six groups from all around the United Slates that include nearly 1,000 people participating. Tickets to Corp Encore are now on sale through the Dec Events Center ticket office or at Smiihtix locations. Adult tickets are S7.50, $4.50 for senior citizens and children, and $25 for a family of up to six. All scats are reserved. This year's theme, "The Children's Arts Festival '88- Where Imagination is the True Magic Carpet" will carry throughout the festival located in the Municipal Garden's Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. "We arc bringing in crafts that have never been done before," said Jennifer Dcnhalter, event coordinator. "The festival will help the children become aware of the arts and stimulate their creativity." Children who participate can learn the arts and crafts from different countries free of charge. "Local artists and others are donating their time just for the satisfaction of doing it," said Dcnhalter. Entertainers, from magicians to fiddlers, will perform for the children during the event. Participants will also be able to learn the different dances and customs from various countries. The Children's Art Contest winners will be announced at 1 p.m. Smokey Bear to discover Utah State, federal, and private agencies will jointly promote recreation on public lands at "Discover Utah Day," Saturday, July 16. The promotion will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Gart Brothers Sporting Goods Company, in Murray. Representatives from the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation, Utah Divisions of Wildlife Resources, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, and The People Planners will be available to answer questions and assist the public in finding recreation areas. in Utah. Free maps, brochures, travel itineraries, and recreation check lists will be available. Exhibits will be set up and various travel presentations will be given throughout the day. Smokey Bear will also make an appearance. The public is invited to come and see the exhibits, talk to representatives, listen to presentations, and discover Utah's hidden recreation areas.
