Show Summer Signpost-Thursday, July 5, 1984 7 Golden Spike Repertory To Perform Cinderella At Weber State "Cinderella," the classic story of dreams that come true will open in the Allred Theatre at Weber State College, Thursday, July 12 at 8 p.m. Golden Spike Repertory Theatre will bring the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical version of the age-old tale to life, during their 1984 summer season. Directing the show is Theresa Mitchell. Mitchell came to Utah from Independence, Kansas, where she received an M.A. degree at the University of Kansas. Mitchell is directing the production with the attitude that by listening to the actor's opinion, and allowing their input, the show will reach its maximum potential. About the performance, Mitchell said, "I hope that the audience is inspired. Impossi- ' r . i i c 1, ble things are happening everyday ana n you wuik. hard enough, you can make dreams come true." On another level, Mitchell hopes to display a new depth to the Cinderella story. The relationship between the King and the Queen is representative of what Cinderella and the Prince may become. Terry Long, who plays the King, said "The show brings out the importance of the family and portrays a just how important those relationships are." Cinderella is played by Stephanie Ross, a graduate of the University of Utah. She has performed with the Lagoon Opera House and also Promised Valley Playhouse. "I think the appeal of this musical is universal to both adults and children," Ross said. Americans remember their country and their freedoms on Tuly 4. I've lived here for 13 years. I had to take a test and talk to a judge before becoming naturalized. They make you learn a lot. I have the freedom of voting and to become what I want to be, which is something 'To me July 4 means a re-commitment to the values that our founding fathers placed on individual freedoms and the freedom of our nation." I lived in Washington D.C. for two years. I believe what happened on July 4 was founded by the hand of God. The' reason we're here is because we had help from a higher source. They are common responses to very real inner emotions." Performance dates for "Cinderella" are July 12-14, 25-26, and in August will run on 7, 11, 13, and 17. The board will determine whether or not the of ficers receive compensation in tuition waivers, stipends, etc. The board members will include the three executive officers: President Jon Southwick and Vice Presidents Craig Jacobsen and Tina Walker. Also serving on the board are Kathy Junk, ASWSC office manager; Grant Protzman, ASWSC advisor; and senators Jeff Noland of school of social science, Kim Morris of school of education, and Eulogio Alejandre of the Hispanic students. The first major senate project is the institution of a campus-wide free hour to be implemented by spring quarter. The next senate meeting is Friday, July 6, at 10:00 a.m. and will be held in UB 238.
