Show July 14, 1967 Pac a r eatures Miller's Cycle Haus Collegeiate Weekly has discovered a wonderful new shop that opened its doors for the first time this week. It's a small, wonderful idea on how to keep trim and fit while having a lot of fun - - and we don't mean a health spa or a new exer-cycle shop. The name of this newest fun addition to Ogden is the "Miller Cycle Haus", operated by Alan Miller and located at 24th and Kiesel Avenue. Alan, internationally known skier, is the son of Earl Miller, owner of the Earl Miller Ski School at Snow Basin and the Utah Racing School for competitive skiers. The 26 year old graduate of Denver University is the director of most of the school's activities during the year, but during the summer - - why not bicyling? He has a wide selection of bicycles including the Peugot of France - - in several styles. The shop is open from 12 noon to 6 p.m. each week day with Alan there to explain to you the "how and why's" of the sport. Bicycling is becoming more and more popular in Utah - - especially at Weber State College where parking is an almost impossible problem. The first bicyclists appear in 1966 and were seen stopping traffic along Harrison Blvd - - fighting motorcyclists for cycle parking stalls - - and looking a lot happier and feeling a lot better than those of us who are continually strapped to the front seat of our cars. Bicycles were also a convenient means of transportation to the bottom of the "W" last year for whitewashing parites. Cyclists went places cars couldn't go. Some people tried tricycles --even unicycles (which the Miller Cycle Haus also has) - - but the bicycle craze had started. In a now-famous race a Weber State coed was challenged by a WSC fraternity member to race her Honda 150 one block against his Peugot cycle. Now maybe - - the girl wasn't a very good cyclist. And maybe - - the boy was a top notch athlete with plenty of leg muscle. B.ut . . the girl lost - - by more than one-fourth of the block, despite a 30 foot head start . . all to the shame of the motorcycle shop who immediately demanded she turn in her racing helmet. And what about the hike rider? He got a pair of 14 carat gold bicycle clips - - and a kiss --from the loser, who didn't seem to be too sorry she lost. They're biking together now, every weekend. Maybe bicycling won't bring romance into your life - - and maybe you won't be able to race the neighborhood's shiny blackCorvette.
