Show September 25, 1964 SIGNPOS- DaD(3 ID "One of the prices of leadership is loneliness," declared Mr LaVar Rockwood as the keynote .speaker at the recently held Weber State College Leadership Conference. The conference was held Sept. 17-19 at Aspen Grove in Provo Canyon and was attended by 90 of Weber's leaders and potential leaders. Mr. Rockwood went on to point out that the true leader is the one who teaches people how to live and gives them the experience of the heart. He pointed out that one of the real falacies of we who claim to be in the process of educating ourselves is that we do not really learn how to live. "Real education comes with thinking, decision making, and the feelings of the heart," he stated. Miller of the college, Dr. Merle Allen, dean of students, Mr. James Conclie, director of housing, and Mr. Farrell Shepherd, union building director. "We are coming into the most exciting and successful year at Weber State College," commented President Miller as he told the conferees of their important part in planning a well rounded schedule of activities for the stu-ents. He also pointed out that, because of Weber's ever increasing numbers, the contacts and atmosphere we have here are becoming much less personal than they have been in the past. "The offices of the administration are there' to help the students," was a point that the President did not want overlooked. Dr. Merle Allen continued the positive attitude of the conference by stating, "Creation is our job and we should pay attention to the creation of ourselves as leaders, people, and selves." In order to do these things he pointed out that we must maximize the opportunities that are available to the students. As we do this then everyone will benefit more with each experience that he has during the coming year here at Weber State. Dr. Allen concluded by saying, "The invitation is to go beyond what has been done, but to realize and' accept what has been done." The conference was also highlighted by sessions on different phases of leadership which gave the students the opportunity to understand their jobs better and gain greater insight into their actual responsibilities to the school and to the students. These sessions were of a working participation nature so that they did provide the experience. "All was not serious at the conference as the delegates were given ample time to engage in various activities at the camp ranging from shuffle board to a dip in the healed pool. All who attended the confer, ence were appreciative of the facilities that were provided and showed their enthusiasm and thanks when Doug Cox, one of the new rally men, led them in a cheer, "Rah, the foods' been great," as the cooks stood and listened. The group concluded the conference on Saturday afternoon and returned to Weber about 6:30 p.m. The entire conference was under the direction of the Leadership Committee, chairmaned by Kent Bulkley and Terry Rich.
