It is one of the oldest organizations ' of this type where scholars can share their knowledge and experience. A major reason for its significance is the fact that this professional society is the only one in Utah . that encumpasses all subject matter areas and it also brings persons together from all fields of knowledge. Though membership must be approved and most members are professors from the different colleges and universities in the state, the organization also incorporates other persons in the community who are interested in joining and who are interested in its purposes. Besides the three main officers already mentioned, the academy has a council on which Weber State College is well represented this year. The council is the directory body and its membership includes: 1. Dr. Monson will be chairman of Humanities. 2. Dr. Johanson will be chair-, man of the Awards committee. 3. Dr. Whitney Young will be director of the Visiting Science program. 4. Dr. Moorman will be chairman of the History program. Dr. Gray was the chairman of the Physical Science Division. The academy has two sessions a year. The fall meetings will be held at BYU next year the spring meetings will be held at WSC. A journal, Proceedings, is published once a year containing research, poems, etc. from the different members. |
