The Board of Trustees passed a plan for the four year curriculum which includes four courses not offered in Utah. These technical courses that lead to bachelor degrees are electronics engineering technology, power mechanics engineering technology, tool and manufacturing technology, and engineering technology. Campus Capsules A prominent Hutchinson, Kansas lecturer, John Crutcher gave social science students a good insight into Soviet political and social conditions last Friday. He spent an hour in an educational and delightful lecture on "the Russian Peace Offensive." His documentation of ithe subject was a product of half-ia-dozen trips to Russia. The Union information desk has a lost and found section. Any student is welcome to check the lost items for personal possesions, and anyone finding articles may turn them in at the desk. The music room is for any students who wish to listen to records, it is not for group conference. Any student wishing to talk are asked to do so in the lounge. Also suggestions for any new records are welcomed at the information desk. Majors Offered Twenty-one division and departmental majors will be offered, 18 secondary teaching majors, and 26 minors. The pre-med program will be expanded to ,a 3 year program. Trustees also authorized the college to continue offering all two year courses leading to associate degrees that are now offered but which are not included in ithe four year curriculum. Degrees Offered The majors in which degrees will be given in 1964 are: accounting, business administration, secretarial training, elementary education, English, commercial art, bacteriology, botany, zoology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, physical education, sociology, psychology, history, political science, eletronics 'engineering technology, power mechanics engineering technology, tool and manufacturing engineering technology, iand engineering technology. Registrar Clarisse Hall reported that 168 other students made High Honors with an average of 3.5. Duo - Pianists Featured Arthur Gold 'and Robert Friz-dale, internationally famous duo-pionists, will appear at the Ogden High School auditorium on Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. They have toured Europe where tbey made appearances at the Venice Festival as well as engagements with orchestra and recital in major cities on the continent. They are now on their twelfth coast to coast tour which has been highlighted by four performances with the New York Philharmonic and a recital at Town Hall. Scholarships Available o IPJeber College Students The scholarship committee announces the following scholarships are available to students enrolled at Weber College. The great majority of these scholarships will be a-warded students with superior academic grades while a limited number will be made on the basis of financial need. Weber College Scholarships: Open ito all students. Granted to applicants with high grade point average. Fifty of these Will be awarded for 1962-1963 provided there are sufficiently qualified students, Stipened: $75. Commercial Security Bank Scholarships: Qualiications same as a-bove. One will be awarded to each school division also three open to all students. Stipend: $100 Jaraette Wade Peterson Memorial Scholarship: For outstanding We ber College girl. Granted each year ion Feb. 23. Jan. 26, 1962, deadline date for applications. Stipend: $200 Steunenberg Memorial Scholarship; Open to all students, Resident and incoming. Five available for top academic performance and leadership. Stipend: $100 First Security Bank Scholarships: Open to three second year students majoring in Business. Apply either to chairman, Department of Business; or Chairman of Scholarship Committee. Stipend: $200 Ogden Ki,wanis Club Scholarships: For athletics, vocal music, and instrumental music. Apply to departmental chairmen concerned. Special Educational Scholarship: Open- to persons of underprivileged races. Apply Chairman, Scholarship Committee. Stipend for all Kiwanis Club scholarships: $145 each (Additional scholarships will be available to students in regional high schools as part of Conservation Contest sponsored jointly by the Weber College and the U. S. Forest Service.) Nursing Department Scholarships: Open to students majoring in the Department of Nursing. Apply to Director, Nursing Department. Stipends: Tuition' or more is determined by selection committee. Activity Scholarsliips: Open to all students who have exceptional proficiency in particular areas of athletics, debate, drama ('theatre arts), instrumental music, and vocal music. Apply directly to faculty sponsor who initiates nomination to the scholarship committee. Granted on condition that the individual vigorously supports the activity. Scholarship is void if recipient changes to another area. Additional Sponsor Scholarsliips Traditionally many community groups have provided scholarship funds for Weber College students. These patrons request the school to submit to them a list of eligible candidates from which the group's officers make 'the final nomination for 'the scholarship. Qualification for these scholarships vary from financial needs to possession of high moral character and desire to continue education, etc. Prominent among these community organizations are: American Business Women's Asso ciation, Ben Lomond Chapter. American Business Women's Association, Mt. Ogden Chapter. Epsilon Sigma Alpha International both Alpha Beta and Mount Ogden Chapters.
