Show PAGE 4 SIGNPOST DECEMBER 12, 1962 By John Hale Cuts Stone Saints; Idaho State Next Weber padded up it's win record with two smooth wins over the Saints from Carroll College. The initial games on the floor of the Weber College Fieldhouse saw Weber down Carroll 74-64 and 76-68 last Friday and Saturday. It seemed to be the middle game that hurt Weber both nights .as the cats pulled out wide leads too early, to see them whittled down later by a combination of bad passes and traveling calls. Carroll led Weber at times during both games, but the Cats, being the clutch team that they are, pulled it out. Lewis High Men Bob Lewis was the gunner for the Cats with 33 points the opening night and 27 Saturday. The big Californian looked good .all over the court doing all sorts of jobs. Jim Lyon, who summed up quite a total at Chico -and Reno, didn't even shoot Friday night, Lyon added 11 to the red lights on the wall Saturday as he found the basket .and book advantage. Doug-Powell dropped in 12 Saturday night. The polish is coming to the We- BULLETIN The Women's Intramural Organization of Weber College walked away with the honors at the annual playday held at the University of Utah Friday, Dec. 8. Bowling and volleyball made up the events. Weber be.at the University of Utah, Utah State University, Brigham Y.oung University and Idaho State for the championship in each event. The next issue of the Signpost will carry the details of this feather in the Cat's cap. ber team. One thing is obvious. . . Coach Mobta has depth to work with. Now all that remains is the process of ironing the wrinkles into the smooth fabric of a team. Dedication Tonight Tonight, Weber meets Idaho State before what should be not only a record audience but a distinguished one. Gov. George D. Clyde and President Miller will attend the .dedication of the gym during half time. Idaho State may be the toughest team Weber has met yet, so this evening will be significant in many respects. j-. The First Step Is The Most Important By John Hale, Signpost Sports Editor The first step in .any endeavor is always the most important step. That step determines the direction we will move,, forward or backward. The size and speed of the step is usually indicative of the momentum we will carry in reaching our destination or goal. We will all agree then on the importance of this step. You're Wrong Everyone hates an unproductive editorial, one that only criti- DRAG RACE cises and never offers a solution. We see too many too often that point at an obvious evil and think that the pointing is enough. One evil that has existed in the past at Weber College is the seeming lack of spirit in connection with sporting events. It is almost funny that on other campuses they should take measures to insure that the spirit doesn't get carried away, that honor be spread out among all ' achieving students and not just heaped on the athletic heros. At Weber we don't have this problem .... we need a little of this problem. Tired Five Who cheers .at the baseball and football games? Five or six hoarse girls! Oh, we all yell when a basket is made or someone makes a spectacular end zone catch, but what happens to us when the team needs support in a rough situation. ' Let's not let Weber get so large that student apathy crowds us all into an indifferent corner of the campus. Let us .rather, as Weber grows see a growing vitalizing support of .all its functions. Nothing is as uniting bo school spirit as a unified student body behind .a winning team. We have the winning team! Before we get into the meat of this season, let us decide to take that first step in the direction of unity and support at all of the home basketball games. |
