OCIAL LI FE NEEDED By Colleen Welsh First of all, to begin a new unpredictable year, I should like to join the chorus of warm welcomes extended to both the new and returning students of Weber College. Along with many other persons associated with the college I am especially glad that over a thousand have chosen to begin their higher education in this developing institute of opportunity. Satisfies All Types So, Freshies, as long as you are here you might just as well enjoy yourself; and this shouldn't be too difficult since Weber College sponsors a well-balanced social life with activities suited to every personality. I'm not trying to sell the college to you, because I .think that's already been done. I'm merely trying to sell you the idea that only by joining wholeheartedly in the social events can you attain sat-iisfying college life I believe this to be equally as important as your formal education and should be given the same consideration. Realizing the importance of social life, colleges and universities across the nation not only provide a higher education, but also a place for the future adults of tomorrow to gain maturity and character sorely needed to live in our chaotic world. Leaders Recognize Need At least once a day through various media the importance of being understood and the importance of insight and understanding of others is emphasized by our nation's leaders. The Freshman of today will not find it necessary to go any further than here to obtain tills priceless human knowledge. However, no one is going to set it in your lap. You must give a great deal of yourself, thereby sharing your ambitions and personality for individual and mutual benefit. Your Presence Is Required Without neglecting your studies, you can attend at least two or three functions sponsored by one or .another organization on campus. These activities are for you and connot accomplish their purpose or be successful unless you are there to enjoy them. CSub Crews Ready To Tackle looks And Frosh Intellectually and Physically Fit Due to an eventful summer we the men of Sigma are happy once more to return to the world of books. As always, we are prepared for another eventful as well as competitive year, with the men of Excels and Phoenix. Impressive Beginning We plan to start the year off with a bang by presenting our "Flamingo Dance" on October 6. A special thanks to the girls clubs for enjoying the summer with us. Also, a special invitation is extended to all freshmen to attend our club meetings, Wednesdays at twelve noon in the new Union Building. Fred Peabody And Hello To You, Too Well, after a rousing summer, Takai Kyoto is here to welcome back the sophomores; the ones who returned as sophomores last year; and especially the new, unsuspecting Freshies. We extend to the football squad best wishes and a rah, rah, rah. May the purple and white ever survive the black and blue. Beacon in the Hall If any frosh is at a loss as to where she Is, just ask a girl in a red sweater. She probably won't know either, but at least you'll get some sympathy. We'll see you at the games, in the Union Building, or maybe In some class; you will take classes won't you? Mioko San Welcome Change of Pace Vacation's over and the grind has started again, but to be honest, our motley crew is ready for a rest from our money-making projects, many parties, and plans for the rushes. It's good to see all the returning sophomores, but just as good to see so many new faces. Tim sailors from the ship, the TJ.S.S. L.D., extend a big hello to all the new freshmen; we hope you like Weber. Success at Last Don't be startled if you see a big light and a little girl walking down the hall, it's just Shirley and her diamond. The Sailors Oh, Those Parties Progressive parties with the lovely ladies of L.D. and O.T. dotted the summer activities of Phoenix Fraternity. The "levis at Lagoon" night featuring the swab-bies and the men of Phoenix turned out especially well with games, food and fun. Going Business Phoeniy accounted for eleven L.D.S. Missions filled during the summer; the weekly cottage meetings provided sufficient income for several to fully support themselves.Anyway, the Phoenix ibrand of spirit and quality is bubbling over to begin a new year. Sydney Gynt U. B. Especially Welcome Welcome to Weber College, all freshmen. Welcome back to all those who already went through that. Also, welcome to a long a-waited addition to our campus, the Union Building. Lambda Delt Sigma kept its officers busy this summer. After the interchapter swimming party held in June, our leaders have been doing nothing but learning to be better leaders. After their Summer Retreat in Logan Canyon and the Seminar at the BYU, we know we'll have the best leaders yet. Lambda Delt Brighter Future Gee, it is really great to be back and find our lunches will be "elbowless' and possibly enjoyable since the new Union Building is ready for use. Greetings to old and new The Pink Ladies extend a warm welcome to all new (and used) students and look forward to the good times we will have this year. Our summer has been full of hard work .and fabulous parties. (Indication of the future,) I've heard of driving for pleasure, driving or help, and driving for a hole-in-one; but this Driving for milk .... Lady Lightstone |
