They are: Dr. Caseel Delore Burke, head of Teacher Education; Kenneth Earl Ericksen, director of band and orchestra; Elizabeth Felt, Nursery School; LuDene Elsie Fresh, English Instructor; Dr. Dale R. Hawkins, Associate Professor of Business. More Teachers Dr. Spencer L. Seager, Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Genenal Science; Gerald Lamont Shupe, Program Director of the Union; Helen Wayment, Nursing Instructor; Howard Wayne Schow, English Instructor; Richard Greenwell Williams, track coach. Inge Hebel Adams has been added to the faculty as a part time instrootor of German. Life Science teacher, Earl A. Jenne; and French instructor, A. Bay Butler who taught last year Dn a part time basis now have full time schedules. Drama Department Plans Pro The Theater Arts Department is eagerly awaiting the beginning of the 1961-1962 drama season. The year will begin on October 26, 27, and 28, when director John Elzey will present the major play, "Golden Fleecing" a very funny farce by Lorenzo Semple, Jr. Musical The next major production will be "The King and I" by Rodgers and Hammerstein on February 27, 28 and March 1. Glen L. Hanson will be the production director of this musical with T. Leonard Rowley and John Elzey as stage directors. "Visit to ia Small Planet" on May 3-5 will be the last major play of -the year. It is written b' Gore Vidal and will be directed by Mr. Rowley. Arena Season A play by Joseph Knamm, "The Shrike" will open the arena Thea- Student Committees Will Direct Nine Areas of Union Activities Over the campus on the hill looms a new building, the Weber College Union, the community center of campus life. Everything in the Union is complete. All it lacks is people. The directors of the Union invite all over to enjoy its facilities today, Grand Opening, and everyday. The planning land designing of the modernistic structure was. done by architect, Keith W. Wilcox. Porter Butts, of the University of Wisconsin has been the consultant; and M. Morrin and Sons were the contractors. Union Directors The directors are: J. Farrel Shepard, Union Director; Monte Shupe, Program Director; Duane Hedin, Games Manager; and Lyle Richins, Book Store. The building has three levels. The lowest level consists of the book store, the bowling alley with eight lanes, a billiard room, and a table tennis room. The cafeteria which can be converted into a ballroom, the kitchen, the information desk, the lounge, and meeting rooms including stereo and reading rooms are located on the second level. The third level is devoted to offices for Board of Control, student body officers, Union Committees, organizations, and publications. Student Committees "The activities in the Union will be carried out by committees of students of the College," said Monte Shupe, Program Director. The Social Committee, headed by Carole Fisher, will be in charge of diances and celebreties, dinners and other social functions of the college. Cultural life at the Union will be headed by Lorilee Hayes. Corrie Oburn and her hospitality committee will make people feel at home at the college. Forums, movies, concerts and other Special Events will be directed by Larry Bryant Contests Tournaments in billiards, bowling, .table tennis, chess, checkers, bridge and also instruction in any activities will be conducted by the games committee with Richard Brown at the head. Val Parrish directs the leadership group on campus. The committee in charge of Arts and Crafts, which are available to all students, is under the Cont. Page 2 Col. 4 auctions ter season on November 28 thru December 2, Mr. T. L. Rowley will be the director of -this serious drama. An Old Testament drama by Christopher Fry will be the second arena pnoclucitaon. "A Sleep of Prisoners" directed by John Elzey will be presented February 6 -10. "Bell, Book and dandle" written by John Van Druten and directed by Mr. Elzey will be the last Arena production, April 17-12. Save Money The public can purchase major season tickets for $4 to 'three shows. Each show separately costs $1.50; and "The King and I" is $2. Students are admitted free to the major season plays. Arena season tickets can be purchased for S3 for three plays. A separate ticket to each production is $1.25. Weber College students and faculty can obtain season tickets for $1.50, or .75 for each individually. |
