E Stimulated By Bispkiy By LeRoy Yorgason To stimulate the growth of cultural education on campus, last week a group of students displayed articles in the Union Building representing several countries. Most of the items on exhibit were representative of the countries from which foreign students have come to attend Weber College, although the display included articles and information from other countries as well. Cultures Cultures of the Far East, Eastern and Northern Europe, the Pacific Islands, and the Americas opened into reality through the articles on display. The art, literature, handcrafts and wearing apparell shown and explained by student hosts revealed past and present conditions of custom and culture in other countries, explaining why those peoples act as they do. Great Interest Greatest interest was shown in the hand-made gold jewelry, old weapons, and national dress. The students felt that the display did spark an interest in other countries, but they expressed some disappointment in the number of people who attended. O. T. Last Tuesday night, O.T. and Excels had one .of our most successful party. Besides the usual twisteroo, we limbcoed along to CC and "The Limbo Rock." It seems Ellen is limbo champ of O.T. and Excel, with Norm, close behind. On Nov. 19 all new pledges were welcomed into the tribe amid much gaiety and good food. Wood Cuts Feofiired Sii Ul By Coiiiitiiffae Thirty two wood cuts from the work of the renown artist Irving Amen are now on display in the Union Building. Mr. Amen has studied in Universities in Paris and several cities in Italy. Some of his wood cuts have appeared in galleries throughout the worLd. His travel throughout Europe and the Middle East has furnished new material for his work. His early work was concerned with the obscure lives of the poor and lonely, but there were also flashes of poetic fancy. He remains an artist sensitive to the relationship between the individual and his overpowering world. Through his European studies, he has learned to express his feelings vividly and realistically. The wood cuts were obtained from the Artist's Studio in New York through the Cultural Committee with Joan Orr the chairman.Brochures are available at the desk explaining about the wood cuts. Some of the cuts are for sale, and the college is planning on purchasing cne for their permanent collection. Art Prof Will Discuss Artists Professor Farrell Collett, head of the art department, will discuss Latin American art Monday, Dec. 10, at 10 a.m. in the Union Building.Artists such as Diego, Rivera, and Orozco will be featured, along with many others. Exhibit Students and faculty may see an interesting student print exhibit now on display throughout the art department, as well as the print exhibit on display in the Union Building. Of major interest to the art department is its new kiln recently purchased for use by the cere-amic students. Things in that department just might get all fired hot. (?) LA DIANAEDA Dead week is over, and now the fun begins. The freshmen may be in for a surprise with finals. Coming up soon is Phoenix's Snowball, and no doubt it will be a nice affair. The queen candidates are: Shirley Herald, Nadirie Raw-son, Pat Austin, Diane Healy, Rene' Sandgren, and Sharon Cottle. Two Wins The L. D. "Swabbies" rallied again as they picked up two more volleyball games. The "swabbies" beat the faculty and T.K. L.D. has four girls on the all star team. If Rene' Sandgren seems to smile a little more than usual, it is because her L.D. pin has been replaced by a Phoenix one. Congratulations Rene'. Initiation The initiation for all the pledges is coming up soon, and we sincerely urge all pledges to shape up or watch out. Monday, Dec. 10, is pledge duty, and we want to remind all pledges to bring their scrub brushes and pails to get Liz's room in tip-top shape before the holidays.
