Show December 12, 1958 SIGNPOST Page 3 Ship Ahoy! Swab bio Pledges Get Aboard The sailors of La Dianaeda are well on- their way out to the sea of activity. An evening is a success when one goes home with a full stomach, and our acceptance banquet was just that. After the ceremony at Lois Mortenson's we got acquainted with the new pledges. The dinner at Kopper Kottage was a welcome change from the lunch-time sea rations we are used to. We had a rousing good time on a treasure hunt with Sigma. With champagne as the pi-ize, the hunters lost no time in getting started. Some got mixed up on boundaries and others just got mixed up, but Shard Linford, Fred Profaizer, and Ann Blackinton returned to win the prize. Kent Green got a little over-zealous and climbed a telephone pole and found the note, only it belonged to another treasure hunt. It seems like Pete Wuiff has really been making time. Through rumors, we've heard that he was the "King of Kisses" at Ooto's acceptance banquet. LD wishes good luck to Phoenix with the Snowball tonight. T. K. in Holiday Mood T. K. is thrilled with new members they took in this year. Now the nine sophomore members will have some help with their club activities. The acceptance tea was a great success. The girls first met at Kay Vance's house and then went on to meet with Sharmea, to have refreshments, and get acquainted. The first get-together with the new girls was' our get-acquainted party, held at Beverly Kimball's home. There were games, singing, chattering, and, of course, food. In general a good time was had by all. Last Saturday, our new girls were put to work decorating the school Christmas tree, and everyone worked very hard to show off her creative and artistic abilities. One distracting feature of the day was Connie Harris swinging from limb to limb on the tree. It seems as though she likes high places. We are now planning our Christmas activities and hope everything goes as planned. 'We also want to wish everyone "Merry Christmas." SIgs Go All Out for Food 'n Femmes The Sigma Men have been actively engaged in the winning of the fair maidens of O. T. during the last week. O. T. and Sigma had a party after a recent BB game and the food was absolutely delicious. So were the girls. Congrats to Phoenix on their deft ability to play basketball with boxing gloves. To you we say, "wait till tonight." Bouquets to Excels for a real party at the Malefic, which was a lot of fun. Jack Downs is having a hard time getting over the night he spent last week soldering wires together at 4:00 p.m. Jack has now resolved to leave the feminine species alone. Coach Bruce Larson and his fine basketball squad of this year are doing great. Things are looking good for them. Let's really get out and support the team tonight. See you there. Fred Peabody. Pink Ladies Pledge Bonjour. Since everyone has told of their acceptance banquet, it is just assumed that we will too well we'll surprise you. . Freshman are planning the Christmas party which should prove interesting under the care and keeping of the freshman officers, Judy Dean, president; Pat Berger, vice-president; and Karen Olsen, secretary. Oh, the surprises we have in store for a few people. We can hardly wait. The telephone numbers are not available but here is the list of our pledges: Barbara Evans, Maude Adams, Karen Olsen, Judy Dean, Pat Ber ger, Jerrilyn Dabling, Cheryl Parry, Sharol Wahlen, Madeline Mills. Then we have the talented gals Ejleanor Ridges, Sylvia Claman, Claudia Scoville, Beverly Barclay, Linda Ward, Carol Williams, Lois Stoddard, and Marian Hull. Merry Christmas to everyone. Things should be extra special for Delsa's Christmas birthday now that her lover is around and now that Henry has a beau along with the rest of the gang. Lamba Delta Sigma Goes Party Wild A combination "Hayride-Sock Hop" was the feature for Lambda-Delta last week. We went from a rocky road behind the college to a lonely road in Uintah. After returning to the institute, we hal a few contests with these winners. Bonnie Bourne and Louis Roberts, polka; Evelyn Johns and Warren Wimmer, smallest and largest shoes respectively. Last, but not least, Janet Eckersley and Bob Wood for the brightest socks. Two-hundred and thirty members had a full course meal at the Thanksgiving banquet. The banquet was a perfect introduction to the holidays. Last Thursday was the carnival with a marriage booth and a fortune teller. Gail Holbrook and Gene West walked off with the head prizes, as, rat Bright, Lyle Ann Hansen, and Janet Eckerly and Warren Wimmer were runners-up. The fortune teller was a hit. Some of the kids came out with very shocked looks on their face, and others were laughing. All the officers really deserve a big pat on the back and a hearty thank you for the wondeiful job they are doing in providing the parties. Education Club Send Greetings Last week the Education Club arranged a night meeting at South Junior High School. Mr. Miller, the principal of the school, discussed the necessary qualifications for becoming a teacher in the secondary schools. The students also investigated the core curriculum as it is being used at South Junior. Refreshments were served after the meeting. All in all it was a very interesitng evening. Needless to say, your Education Club officers wish to extend a typical greeting of good cheer to the studentbody for the coming year. Phoenix Rolls Big Snowball Tonight This it it! Tonight at 0:00, Phoenix will present the annual Snowball which has come to be known as the outstanding social aifair of the year. The Y's Men, one of the top bands in the west will provide the music, and entertainment will be furnished by the Chaperones. Everyone who comes out will be treated to the finest event of the year and we hope to see you all at the Ber-thana for a great evening. Congrats to Excels, on their terrific Malefic. It was a fine dance. Perhaps a little crowded, a little foggy, and a little reckless, but it was enjoyable. In intramurals this week, Phoenix managed to put two teams in the quarter finals, but had a little bad luck. Alas, we were eliminated. We'll be heard from yet this year, however. We're beginning to hang in there tough. Sidney Gint. Alpha Eho Hoars Hello from Alpha Rho! The dormancy of Alpha Rho Omega ended with the rousing success of their rush party and capped with the quiet dignity of the incoming pledges at the acceptance banquet. Club membership increased sharply, restoring activity in intramural and school functions, but there are a limited number of openings for new members who wish to join a men's club that's going to go places. Our entrance into intramural activities were frantically beaten back by the boys of Excels and Phoenix, but this men's club won't let that stop them. We've still got two quarters to make our mark and make our mark we will! To start with, the one weak voice of Alpha Rho roared forth last week at the M.V.C.C.-W.C. game to snatch the Hound-dog Trophy out from under the noses of the' boys of Sigma and Excels. Sigma managed to save a little of their prestige by stealing the Hound-dog Trophy from us by sheer numbers at the Scotts Bluff game Friday Better enjoy it while you can, Sigma. Congratulations to the great Weber College team of '."-'r!l. You have a great record and an even greater team. We'll support you wherever you go. Congrats to the Excels boys on their successful Malefic and to their dominance in intramural table tennis. As for Alpha Rho, along with plans for participation in school activities, we have a wide variety of plans for parties. Flowers to the cheerleaders. You're doing a wonderful job and we'll do all we can to help you. Well, see ya later, elevators. I'm flat! (Continued on page -J.)
