Show Women's IM teams face one more round of volleyball play before moving on into basketball competition. In that round, played today, Sharmea faces Chanodo and OT will vie for a win over the in-dependants. L. D. draws a bye. Last Friday's play found Sharmea taking two games straight in wins over OT and LD and maintaining their unbeaten record with a victory over the independants. Basketball is next on the IM schedule with Chanodo defending last year's championship. Several of the teams have already been holding practices and the competition promises to be keen. A hearty cheer should go to the independant team for the outstanding record they have made with their limited number. Any independant girl is eligible to play with them and her participation is welcome. If interested, contact Vicki Jo Marumoto. Antionette Wyatt, president of the WAA again pointed out that the student body is inivted to attend the girls' games each Friday. They are played between 2:30 and 4:30 in the Central gym. By the stu-dentbody of course she means all fellows who appreciate the view of womankind wearing shorts. Third and fourth place spots went to Excelsior team II and the men from Phoenix. Alpha Rho and Sigma failed to place teams in the finals. FACULTY FROLICS In the championship fray the ancient and aged simply wouldn't yield to the efforts of the afore-undefeated Excels team as they jumped to, an early lead in the initial game, pressed for six successive points to stretch their lead to 10-G, then stemmed a futile Excelsior rally to ice the game and lead the set 1-0. This proved to be the margin of victory for the faculty as time ran out on the "E" men in the second game with the score knotted !-'.). The net work of long-men Mik-kelsen, DeBoer, and Gardner; along with the back-court play of Doc Andy arid Ray Rhead plus the blasting service of H. E. D. Red-ford proved to much for the fading "E" men who were unable to muster a scoring spree at any time during the afternoon. The Excelsior II team, smarting from last week's semifinal defeat at the hands of the champion faculty crew, rolled over a game but outmaned Phoenix I team by grabbing the lead in the first game and fighting off Phoenix surges to notch a third place. COURT DATE SET January Kith is the tentative date scheduled for basketball to begin, with Sigma and Excelsior co-favorites to battle for the top positions. According to Ray Rhead, intramural director, foul-pitching and ping pong tournaments will be held in conjunction with basketball. In all probability the double-elimination will govern the casaba method reports Rhead. Plans are also being made to hold the championship game as a prelude to one of the regular varsity games. 'ROVIANS' AWAIT RING WARS nights, Chanodo Active in This is the first in a series of feature articles spotlighting the athletic participation, past, and plans of Webers Social clubs. In this issue we feature the Knights of Alpha Rho and the Merry Maids of Chanodo. CHANODO Enthusiasm in participation marks Chanodo's success, reports Audrey Harris, the IM manager for theMerry Maids. Chanodo now ranks sceond in the Intramural point standing, with their only loss in volley ball play being to the pace-making L. D. team. The Chanodo crew feel that the remaining games, one with Sharmea and a "make-up" with the Independents, promise to provide a challenge for even their enthusiastic bunch. Last year Chanodo took first place is basketball competition and tied with L. D. for first in volleyball. In the ping-pong class Chanodo placed second. As compared with last year, participation is up . . . with at least fourteen or fifteen girls dressed for each game. Although the new pledges make up the bulk of the team, many of the members are still in there fighting. Audrey Harris, acting captain of the team, encourages 100 par ticipation with perhaps little better feelings between competing clubs. She explained the IM activities should afford every girl a chance not only to meet and associate with members of her own club, but with all the girls in all the clubs. She says that with gals like Sharon Fife, Shirley Murphy, Noma Albright, and Ann Wilberg leading the Chanodo pack, everyone better stand back for a "sparked-up" finish to the IM volleyball play. ALPHA RHO The Alpha Rho Omega "Blue Knights," intramural program is moving "with enthusiasm and spirit," reports of Nolan Jones, club athletic manager. The Knights, although defeated in football and volleyball, are well equipped for intramural swimming and skiing. Last year Alpha chalked up wins both sports. Their hopes are also high for a top spot in basketball. Each year the Knights sponsor what is called the "Smoke-less Smoker," and in their eyes is the most outstanding intraVnural event of the year. In this event any boy in the school can challenge another for a boxing match. Not only are the matches composed of Weber men, but also some of the most promising amateurs in the state. Arrangements have been made in the amateur field for outstanding boxers from University of Utah, State Industrial School, and the Ogden Hep Cat Club. Gene Fulmer, middleweight professional, who recently won a decision over the third ranked middleweight of the nation, will be on hand to referee. The event will be held at the Berthana February 20 and awards will be presented to the outstanding contender. Alpha Rho proudly boasts two members who are Golden Gloves title holders, Don Cope and Nolan Jones. Throughout the past years the Knights have not only staged this smoker but on many occasions have also walked off with top awards. With. this years array of talent the Knights should again do as well. The Knights are looking forward to a very promising year in intramural competition and expect to finish high on the IM ladder.
