What could be more special than an M-G-M recording by the great Eckstine? "I've Never Been in Love Before," combines Eckstine's richer-than-cream voice with a tremendous background arrangement by. Hugo Winterhalter, who does such grand records of his own, assists Mindy Carson with "The Touch of Your Lips," and "You're Not in My Arms Tonight." These sentimental ballads are properly done not overdone by Mindy for R.C.A. Victor. A change from these sentimental bouquet gatherers is Columbia's and Guy Mitchell's robust "The Roving Kind." It's the kind of tune that makes everyone want to join in on the chorus and sing, and sing. On the back is thenot-so-robust "My Heart Cries for You." This is not so impressive as the same tune by Bill Parrell, but soulful instead. & Get Your I y FAVORITE RECORD DunkSey Music y Home of the Magnificent f) j "Magnabox" 7j Radios -:- Phonographs (L 'Preferred Man To Be Honored At Preference Ball Climaxing Charm Week, the Preference Ball will be held February 16, in the college ballroom at nine p. m. A "Preferred Man" chosen from the preferences submitted to AWS by the girls, will be presented during intermission. Preferences were made last week in the girls' lounge. Every girl stated three choices and a committee, headed by Janice Malan is mailing out the invitations. They contain the girl's name and telephone number. Boys are requested to telephone their acceptance and await further orders. All dating must go through the date bureau because each couple must have an invitation, and they are sent out only by the date bureau committee. - Dave Minnoch's orchestra is scheduled to play at the dance. Valentine Cards Valentine's Day, with its facey cards, lovely verses, and heart-shaped boxes of candy, is just in the middle of next week. Home-made valentines with big, red hearts, lacy borders and catchy verses will keep the postmen busy. A fortunate few will receive boxes of candy from their latest heartthrobs. ' Valentine parties will use tiny candy hearts with verses on them such as "Be mine, I love you, You're sweet," and many, many others. Comic valentines will give the light touch to serious meanings by bashful boys (and girls). What a nice, friendly, inexpensive day St. Valentine's Day can be. What are you going to do towards making it a success? Remember your friends on the campus, in the armed forces and at home. How about it? Ask that certain someone to be, "your valentine." La Dianaeda Adding and subtracting business has been going on in La Dianaeda's group during the past week. A new Diana follower, Joyce Fer-rell, received her pledge pin and instructions during a noon-day ceremony Friday, February 2. Annette Greenwell, freshman club member, became Mrs. Paul James, Friday, February 2. The couple will live in Salt Lake City, so Annette will be an inactive La Dianaeda member. Freshman member, Jeneane Garner, was recently elected as a club representative to the Inter-club Council. Three-girl committee, Emma Hipwell, Yvonne Erickson and Beth Macfarlane are planning a joint party with Phoenix members for sometime in the near future. Congratulations, Orchid Queen Darlene Powell. Otyokwa Twenty-five papooses of the Otyokwa tribe became squaws at a ceremony enacted Monday, February 5. Immediately following the ceremony at Joan Williamsen's house, 1416 27th Street, a banquet was enjoyed at "Edes." Among the twenty-five girls who were made members were five new pledges: Marilyn Bradshaw, Elaine Syme, Virginia Wilde, Elaine Barker and Carmen Petty, j. ! Can Girls Keep Up With Male Trends? What are wo going to do about this marriage situation, girls? Are there any boys who are physically and mentally "just right" for us? For years we have been instructed to marry some one a few years older than we are, so that they can measure up to us socially and mentally. Now the latest twist is that we should marry fellows a few years younger, so that they can live as long as we do. There are good arguments for both sides. But do you think any of us pay any attention to this when the "bug bites?" bership banquet February 7, at the home of Janet Farr. The girls were lovely in formals and the affair was enjoyed by all.
