Show l'age 4 SIGNPOST April 1, I960 Three A's Win Basketbal The Three A's independent basketball team won the men's intramural championship during the winter quarter by overwhelming every and all opponents. Excelsior finished in second place, followed by Sigma in third and the Faculty in fourth. The title team consisted of the following players: Ken Hunt, Max Ewing, Blair Moyes, Per Evensen, Dave Parkinson, Lynn Harbertson, Bill Stettler, and Al Sandstrom. The Triple A's swept through the strong National League without a defeat, while the Faculty and Excels each suffered a single loss in the American League. Four teams started the girls' round-robin Softball tournament last Friday. Sharmea had a close win over Otyokwa by a score of 17-16. Takai Kyoto slipped by the swabbies 15-14. All the Softball games will be played on lower quad at upper campus. Points are adding up for awards. The potentials vying for these awards are: sophomores; Cheryl Parry, Nancy Cole, Lois Stoddard, Pat Berger, Kay Sweeney, Shirlene Newton, Jeanne Mackenzie, Suzanne Stock, Kathy McDonough, Flora Jensen, LouAnn Wakefield, Norene Howes, Judy McFarland, LaPreal Baldwin, and Pauline Morley. Freshman top scorers are: Ruth Walsh, Jill Bateman, RaNae Finlay, Dixie Stanger, Ellen Theisen, Joy Dial, Kaylene Randell, Becky Stevenson, Jean DeBry, and Bonnie Talty. This list is only temporary, and a few points could make many changes. If your name is not listed, you still have a good chance to pick up points. Softball, tennis, and archery are still to be finished. You receive points if you come and watch the activities. All the Softball games will be held on Fridays unless the weather does not permit them. If they are postponed, they will be played the following Tuesday. Today's schedule is as follows: 2:30 L.D. vs Sharmea 2:30 T.K. vs Independents 3:30 Nurses vs. O.T. The pink ladies took first place honors in both singles and doubles in the Paddleball Tournament. Cheryl Parry took first place in Singles. Ruth Walsh and Judy McDonald brought down the honors in doubles. The tournament was played off in a single elimination bout. Congratulations are in order for L.D. who took a splashing first place in the WI swimming meet. Dienna Champneys put on a good show and placed first in diving competition. Special To The Signpost Wildcats Boas Weber College, with some top distance runners and javelin throwers in the ranks, expects to place well in Intercollegiate Athletic Conference track and field events this spring. Coach Ray Rhead sounded his first call for track and field aspirants this week. Twenty-four responded, including 19 freshmen. The annual ICAC track meet for junior colleges of the area will be held in Ogden at the Wildcats' stadium May 14. Weber expects to send representatives to the season's final event, the national JUCO meet in Big Springs, Texas, May 20-21. Weber opens competition against Mesa April 16, at Grand Junction, Colo. The Cats will participate in the BYU invitational meet at Provo, April 23, and will send squads to Rexburg, Ida., for an ICAC clash against Ricks April 28. Weber's invitational meet is scheduled for May 14. Coach Rhead has enrolled two former Weber High School distance runners, who both made outstanding records in prep meets during the past two years. The pair, Heber Fuller and Steve Burns, both milers, will add to the Cats' power in the track events. A top performer in field contests will be Russell Hagen, who was ranked sixth in the nation in javelin events by the NJCAA last year. Weber will also have at least one other veteran back who turned in oustanding performances last year; Dan Hinckley, whose specialty is low hurdles. Other returnees are Jim Mackay, javelin; Robert Waldron and Dennis Dahl, sprints. Frosh members are Kent Richardson, Logan High, broad jump, sprints; Mike Phillips, Ogden High, 880 yard run; John Marriott, Ben Lomond High, javelin; Terry Van Fleet, Grace High, Grace, Ida., pole vault, broad jump.
