T?3 Weber Hoofs Tooted Icioiio $Me (Freshmen Weber's Wildcats came alive in the second half to overcome a. small halftime deficit and then go on to trounce the Idaho State College freshmen last Tuesday, 8-1-70. Weber led during most of the first half, but Arnold Krump led a Bengal rally in the last five minutes of the half to give Idaho State a 36-32 advantage at the intermission. Fast Break Weber's faist break became more effective in the second half as the Wildcats took the lead at 40-38. Fielders by Bob Belka, Parker Jenkins, and Bert Hammond extended the Weber lead to 66-59, but then the Bengals called time and went into a full court press. They quickly closed the gap to 66-63, but Weber regained their composure and opened up a 75-67 lead from which they were never headed. Coach Motta substituted ' freely with seemingly good results on all combinations. , Big Men Weber's ;big men, Phil Johnson and Bob Belka, took high game scoring honors for Weber, each with 21 points. Parker Jenkins hit for 16 while Mike Sivulich and Eddie Tillman each hit 9 points to round out a balanced Weber attack. Idaho State was lead by Zaklan with 21 counters, Crump with 19 points, and Gastinaeo with 16. Weber traveled t o Albion, Idaho, Wednesday for anon-conference encounter with Magic Valley Christian College. Tomorrow they leave on a tour of Colorado and Texas where they will play six games in eight days. The team will return to play its next home game on Jan. 6. Sigma Leads IM Sigma has forged out into the lead in Men's Intramurals overall standings. The defending IM champions started strong by garnering firsts in the first three autumn sports, football, golf, and the cross country run. They also have picked up a few' seconds, thirds, and fourths (possibly more fifths). Sigma beat the Faculty to win touch football while their "B" unit pladed fourth. The Faculty just recently beat Excels to win the Double Elimination Volleyball Tournament. Picked at the annual meeting of the Intermountain Collegiate Athletic Conference Saturday were nine Boise Broncos on the first teams, offense and defense, and six from the second place Wildcats. The all-ICAC football teams for 1960, picked by the conference coaches: First Team Defense: Quarterback Eric Gardner, CSU. By Susan Parkinson WIA Reporter Last Saturday was' the climax to the volleyball when our all-star team and an alternate team participated with high spirit in the playday at the University of Utah. Outstanding teams from all the colleges in Utah were competing. The competition was high, and Weber did an outstanding job. We may not have won all the honors at volleyball, but we did hit a couple of star players in the head with the ball, and got an award for being the happiest players. Congratulations to the girls who went, and thanks for the fine representation.Ping-Pong Winners Gwen Wiser and Carolyn Ras- through the tournament without a defeat. Excels took second as the Persians captured third. Excels "B" landed fourth place. The following is a point total for autumn quarter, excluding Volleyball. 1. Sigma 476 2. Excels 275 3. Faculty 1 160 4. Phoenix 70 5. Davis Co 20 6. L. D. S 20 mussen from L.D.S. are the first place winners of the ping-pong doubles; and Bonnie Bates and Elouise McQuown from O. T. bounced their way into second. Incidentally, did you know that ping-pong was named from the sound of the ball hitting the racket?Sharmea took a lot of high spirit, effort, and determination to the gym with them last Friday and gained a laborious victory over the hitherto undefeated faculty. L.D.S. tied the 5-game lead with Sharmea when they beat O.T. ; and Independents and L.D. won over T.K. and Nurses Dy forfeit. Volleyball Ends The volleyball will close with the final showdown at the gym this afternoon. So, don't put away those short, shorts (snow or no snow) until after dead week, and come play. The schedule is as follows:O.T. vs. Sharmea 3:15 L.D. vs. L.D.S. 3:15 Nurses vs. T.K. 4:00 Faculty vs. Independents 4:00 Everyone is invited to play (except boys of course) and if you don't belong to a club you can play for either Lambda Delta Sigma or Independents. Theater Arts 15 (Beginning' Directing) is scheduled at 9:00 a.m. , Tuesday and Thursday, and Theater Arts 25 (Stage Make-up) will be Wednesday evenings in the Moench from 7:00 to 9:30. These classes are primarily for people who are involved in church and community activity, Mr. Elzey said. |
