Show qvartzrbxzzh With the potential for one of Weber's finest basketball teams in several years, Coach Bruce Larson will unveil his '58 charges the second time before the home crowd tonight. The last Wildcat team to win more games than it lost was the '." i squad which , ' compiled a 13-i: I it record. The Wildcats' of '.Vi won 10 and lost 4 ICAC games to tie Ricks and College of Southern Utah for the league crown. Cob Subic and Don Nish, two ' i "hell-for- leath-caaJ er" a t h 1 etes, paced the '." squad while breaking every training rule in tne book. Subic, a sturdy athlete from Wyoming, averaged 111 points a game and gained a berth on the region team and honorable mention on the all NJCAA squad. Nish averaged 14 points a game over the season. Other stars of the ICAC co-champions were Reese Quayle, Don Clifford, Clair Stokes, Glen Campbell, Dick Juluson, Gary Jensen, Garth Hansen and Marv Hanson. Interest in this year's team has been fanned to a feverish pitch by Wildcat followers, who haven't had too much to cheer about in the past three years. Another reason for the intense interest this year is the presence of several outstanding local athletes on the squad plus the highest scoring prep school basketballer in Arizona last year. Training Violations The denial of scholarships to seven football players for. breaking training poses the problem of STUDENTS! Come Here for the Best in FOOD and FOUNTAIN Drive-in Service COMBE'S DRIVE-Ift 3S5 - 12th Street the basketball team. While the few who broke training in football were doing their carousing the stu-dentbody turned its head the other way. Whatever his rules, it is certain that basketball coach Larson doesn"t condone late hours by his athletes. Basketball is an arduous sport, even more so than football. When the athletes .of Weber perform they represent this college, and athletes who keep late hours cannot perform at the peak of their ability all season. This is why it is important for the athletes to keep in training, besides the more aesthetic and moral reasons. It is impossible for the coaches to keep tabs on the players. The ideal situation would be "for every player to keep completely above reproach in his training habits, but that is well-nie impossible. The next best thing would be for every student to keep an eye out for errant athletes and send them home early. Volleyball Intramural volleyball was wrapped up this week with - the Excelsior-Faculty championship game. As in IM. football this corner will attempt to select an all-star team from reputation and Per sonal observation of the various teams. Dean Gardner and Ray Rhead of Faculty were both good spikers and always kept the ball high for their teammates. Ron Swenson and Lynn Daines of Excelsior were the key men in their club's high finish while Bob Van Dyke sparked Phoenix. LeRoy Overstreet, 6-0, net man sparked Lambda Beta Pi while Jerry Shurtleff was Sigma's best "all-around" player. New Gym Hope it doesn't rain tonight or the players will be trading their gym shoes for galoshes if they are to stay dry in Weber's leaky gymnasium. With a team expected to draw more crowd interest than in several years, the college should inquire about obtaining the OHS gymnasium for Wildcat home games. Brother!
