Phoenix, Sigma, and Excelsior for their gifts and well wishes at our Rush. Congratulations to Cubby Burdett who was chosen "Miss Shipwreck at the party. We had a swell program with representatives from each of the men's cli:bs on campus. Ralph (Brazilian) Degn played the piano, Sigma and Dean let loose with their musical version of "the Battle Between Booze and Milk", and those jazzy E Men are beginning to hate oh well, we have to release our tensions somewhere.Among other lazy summer nights, I can recall Gail Gunder-son feeding us the "bad" candy, being an usher at All Faces West" a jam session in the parking lot of the Old Mill, a swinging deal called the "Peapody Reunion", an Oriental evening, a Green Spot Gathering, and a Sharmea Special. Then there was Sydney's party at the Villa Capri. I'm not sure what was in his glass; it might have been Sour, but it certainly wasn't Milk ! ! ! Summer wedding bells rang for Joan Borger (Jackson), Lynetta McCarty (Cottrell), Judy Burkes ( Johnston) , Nancy R o y 1 a n c e (Olson), & MariDee Upp (Brown) L.D. also claims Mary Beth, Pete Elaine, and Lynette as mission widdows. Well, if the Pink Ladies have polished their bar-bells, the Squaws practiced their smoke-signal codes, and if the Geisha's have all their fans pleated, we are ready for a rip-snortin year, because . . We've mopped the deck, scrubbed the brig, And polished brass buttons, no less And the Blue and White Sailors of Weber C. Are now ready for fun and success. See you at the Football Games La Dianaeda What A Party! By Larry Peer The Phoenix rises again, as usual, and here we ' are ready to continue our great and glorious works in these latter days, Har-umph. Rushees and members wined, dined and had jolly good fun at the Villa Capri, with the party finally ending Thursday morning. Seems that one of the rushees was big winner. Let's have the poker chips back, freshman. A joke's a joke, but we need the equipment. 1 The great men of the faculty didn't quite come through and Excels nosed them out in the annual bicycle race. Seems that our bicycle was last seen "wearing green spots" . . . The great fire-eaters managed to scrape out another victory in the race for the scholarship trophy last Spring Quarter beating Sigma by a hair. Thanks to Jens Trae-den's 4.8 grade point average. Speaking of scholarship, it seems that Phoenix men dominate Phi Theta Kappa. It can be expected. By the way Excels, Phi Theta Kappa is something to do with academic quality. . . A word of thanks to those clubs who donated time and imagination on Phoenix gjlfts. Special affection showered on La Dianaeda; good work. Our great sisters deserve the best and they will get it. Thought for this week: "Do unto others as you would have them." Sydney Gynt II Summer Review By Carolyn Sommers The maidens of Otyokwa say "How" to all you new and former students of Weber. We hope this year will be enjoyable and successful for each of you. The past summer has kept the squaws busy planning fall activities, working at fund-raising projects, and as always, having lots of parties. We launched the summer party season when we met with our brother club, Excels, at Bear Lake for a day of boating and water skiing. Later in the season we again took to the water for a swimming party at Patio with the water-weary sailors, and a boat-party at the dam with Phoenix where we finished off the evening with hotdogs and milk. Lagoon was the setting for a fun party with the Sigma men, and a hay-ride with Excels gave us a chance to rest up for the mad game of "Flying Dutchman" that followed. Of course the biggest party of the summer was our first rush held Sept. 14, at the Old Mill. 100 cute rushees joined us for all night festivities. Thanks Sigma, for the new member of our tribe, Pochahontas. During the summer many O.T. maidens changed to Mrs.'s. Among them was former chief, Norene Howes, Doris Knox, Judy Hansen, Donna Osmond, Shannon Reyns and Myrna Woolsey. Our Congratulations to these girls. Congratulations also to Bonnie Bates who is our new treasurer. For The Men By Gordon Affleck There will be one men's club on campus this fall . . . Sigma, of course. Maybe the boys clubs can develop into good units by the end of the year. Sigma would like to thank the social units on campus for their contributions to our rush. The gifts helped make the night a success. What's the matter Phoenix, no I.D. ? Seriously, our rush was a success and went off with very few hitches, By the way L.D. and O.T. why didn't you stay and watch the show? All freshmen interested In rushing Sigma Delta Pi will be welcomed in room 325, Wednesday, September 28 at noon. The Sigma family has managed to get to all the girl's rushes. Congratulations girls on the good organization and the fine rushees you picked out. The girls of L.D. lived up to their nickname, the swabbies, they were mopping the deck most of the night. Next week we should have some interesting things to say . So, until then, the men of the Peabody Clan bid you farewell. As always, Fred Peabody We Need Rest By Linda Monk Bonjour! Comment allez-vous? We, the ladies of Sharmea, hope that you of the wildcat clan are more rested than we after our rough weekend of rush preparations, drills and boxes of No Doz. New we only need to get a good start in school to resume the customary "Sleep - in -class-when-teacher-not-looking" routine. But we probably won't be the only ones sleeping in classes, some of the other clubs (especially the men's clubs), are still sleeping off the effects of their rushes. Congratuations are in order to the other clubs on their merveill-eux rush parties. We want to thank them for dropping in to visit our rush and for the lovely gifts they brought. A special thanks to the men's clubs who participated on our program. Everything helped to make the evening more perfect. The summer saw most of the club members working hard, (sometimes hardly working), but there were some bright spots in it when we had parties with the men's clubs. Karen Winterbottom and Suzanne Dickson brought honor to the club with their beauty and talents. Suzanne was crowned Miss Morgan County Dairy Princess. Karen won Miss Clearfield, Miss Davis County, and competed with the rest of the beauties of the state for Miss Utah State Fair last Saturday night. With all the men being shipped out of town for one reason or another some of our misses grabbed a few and become a mrs. during the summer, Mrs. Ellen Thie-son James got married in June, but her man got shipped to Turkey so she stayed here to help us hold the fort. ( However, shes' leaving to join him sometime later in the fall.) Mrs. Julie Carr Anderson will still be with us for a while.. Another Mrs. is Jean DeBry who did things the quiet way and eloped. Congrats, girls. We of Sharmea will be right in there swinging, so we'll see you in class if we can stay awake.
