You won't be a girl who doesn't rate dates if you follow the advice set forth by some of the Big Men on the campus in yesterday's assembly.A tried and true, down-pat formula cannot be set forth step by step because every boy doesn't like the same attributes. This is probably a good thing because think where the majority of the girls would be if all the boys liked the same girls. Briefly summarized, these are the basic necessary qualities for any Charm girl: friendliness, neatness, well-mannered, genuine interest in others, good conversationalist, natural smile, unaffectedness and poise. An authority on any subject, our friend Webster defined charm as "anything worn to avert ill or secure good fortunes." A girl who doesn't have it can spend a lifetime searching for that intangible something which polishes off her other attributes and distinguishes her from others. The girl who has it is usually unaware of her possession, and thus she wears it in an unaffected way and continues to be her own sweet self. Some every-day virtues that are included under the all-inclusive heading of charm are: looking to the bright side of things, enthusiasm, thoroughness and cheerfulness.Look around at the girls on the campus. Monson, chairman of the Division of Humanities told the student body in a special Lincoln-Washington assembly Thursday, February 22, and he added, "Washington and Lincoln followed this pattern." Mr. Monson pointed out that both of these famous Americans won the confidence of the people by a constant exercise of spirituality. "Lincoln had a deep and abiding faith in God, and a keen interest in God's children," he said. He then pointed out that prayer was the guidepost to understanding the character of our first president, George Washington. Under the direction of faculty assembly advisor, Dr. J. G. Olson, the assembly featured patriotic numbers from the school band directed by Delmar Dickson, and a reading and background discussion of Lincoln's "Gettysburg Address" by Rebecca Wells, assembly committee member. The invocation was offered by Joan Craven, sophomore, and the benediction was spoken by freshman Bob Critchlow. Prior to the assembly proper, John Kelly, speech instructor and general chairman of Founder's Day, discussed the day's activities and inti-oduced various committee heads who reported tothe student body on progress for the multitude of events. Dr. Karl Christensen To Lecture March 26 According to Mr. Ralph Gray, chairman of the Physical Science lectures which are held the last Wednesday of every month, the speaker at the next lecture, March 21!, will be Dr. Karl Christensen, dean of the School of Mines and Mineral Industries at the Utah University. Mr. Gray stated that Dr. Christensen, who was formerly a research chemist for Bell Telephone Laboratories, is an excellent speaker, powerful and interesting. Dr. Christensen has recently instituted a class in ceramic engineering, which deals with the development of better cements, filters, and clays. His discussion will center on the various clays to be found in Utah, a state rich in clay, and the uses to which they can be put why some clay makes beautiful, high grade china, and others can be used only for adobe brick. The public is invited to these lectures, held under the auspices of the Physical Science Division of Weber College at :?:30 in the Women's Lounge. A social hour is held before the lecture, when refreshments are served. for Stationery, Greeting Cards and School Supply . . .
