Show Thursday, January 11, 1951 SIGNPOST Page 3 What Is It Education or Hell? Winter quarter started off with a bang as barbers, cowboys, sailors and Robin Hood's merry men filed the halls of Weber college. These weren't all the characters you met either, for during the first half of this week even "The Thing" was attending day classes at Weber. Higher education had reached a new height as everyone anu every--r thing began striving for a bit or readin', 'riting' and 'rithmetic. Lack of sufficient clothing was no draw-back they just wrapped themselves up in an old sheet, or dug an old suit or dress out of the attic. Some were even so hard up that they made themselves dresses out of crepe paper. Enthusiasm was at a new height, girls sang in the halls between classes and each noon their voices filled the cafeteria with melodious ditties. Why, at the matinee dance Tuesday, 'a group of them even displayed their talent with a free floor show. .Maybe they're just so glad to find that there are still a few males left in college, that they can't control their exuberance. Or perhaps someone told them to try their darndest to make fools of themselves. (However, it seems hard to believe that any member of the lovely Weber family would intentionally lead his fellow classmates astray.) Either fatigue of sense (in all probability fatigue) eventually set in and before the week is over things may have returned to normal at least there are those who hope so. Everything wijl be the same as it once was, except that a tired and relieved bunch of freshman pledges will have managed to live through "Hell Week". Trying Discs' Is ruif less Task No 'mint-smooth' record column this week!! It seems that all the mellow men of the music industry have taken a short leave of absence from the limited circle of one A. Lund. Jerry Laine, cf record buying re-known, tells us that since Christmas, no more than ten records have come in; and so go the other reports around town. A more specific explanation of the whole dilemma is the probability that the annual inventory of record distributing companies has been quite over-powering. New shipments are expected in the very near future, so, until then, HAPPY NEW YEAR! May you buy more and better records in the future. P.S. For economy's sake, it might be a good idea to look into some of -the record sales going on around town. I found an old Boyd Raeburn recording of "Tonsilec-tomy" and a terrific old Sarah Vaughan smoothie. I wish you Happy Hunting! Letter,, to The Editor Dear Editor, Wihat's the matter with the people in this school? Are they trying to adjust the social standards of modern living or something? For years fellows have been the pursuers and everything has worked out fine. But the girls at Weber think they can do better by having all the dances girls' choice. We have only had one major boys' choice dance this entire year, and there have been two girls' choice dances in a row. Now I ask you what is the scoop on all the girls' dances. It won't be long until all the boys will be gone anyway and it's only fair to them to be able to ask the girls out while they are here. If there is a good reason for all the ladies choice affairs we would like to know. Can't the girls around here get dates unless they ask the fellows ? Thanks, A Disgusted Webcrite INFLATION Inflation means to blow up. It can be conjugated thus: inflate, inflated, busted. The winner was clad in a friv-oulous red, blue, black, white and maroon preation straight from Paris. His flighty manner of giggling and waving to all the girl judges gave him the crown of "Kewpie Queen." Does anyone want to chip in and send him to Hollywood? Chanodo Many versions of Friar and Tuck and Robin Hood were prevalent this week as Chanodo's pledges were "put through their paces." They were also punished for their mischievous behavior during the week.- FAMILY It's amazing how members of a large family develop a real liking for the remote parts of a chicken. Marcelen Cox, Ladies' HomeJournal. i Iceland Fling' Is Girls' Last Chance Just get a love to keep you warm, and you'll be flying high at Iota's "Ice-Land Fling". Other members of Iota Tau Kappa who are assisting her are: Darlene Steffen, intermission; Dorothy Johnson, pubilicty; Ann Crary, orchestra, Charlene Moore, decorations; and Doris Brown, programs. Male Fashions Go Over Big! By Pat Olsen Did you know you might as well be in 1939? Yes, it's true, at least as far as fashions are concerned. Look through any fashion magazine for '39, and you will see that our fashion cycle has revolved right back to there. By now we suppose you have seen the latest thing in men's wear. It is, of course, the new blues for the air force, khaki wool army clothes and then the familiar navy blue bell-bottoms trousers. For the more conservative man this season, perhaps you'll find a dark suit, quiet tie, white shirt and a felt hat. Down through the ages women have changed their styles many times. In the early days they disguised their natural figures with steel and leather corsets of various types. If we today tried to wear a hoop skirt and run for a bus or try to keep with our mode of life, we would find our selves in a quandry. And so we see the practical thing to do is .stay within our modern realim of fashions from 1939 to 1951. Airmen Yant Co-ed Dancing Partners Girls, here is a solution for your problems about the men shortage.
