Bp wis Wayne Cottle Stands Out One of the standout players on this years Wildcat cage squad is Wayne Cottle, veteran from last year's great Weber team. Known as the "Brow" to his friends, Wayne is a husky lad whose height is 6' and weight 180 pounds. Wayne is probably the most consistent scorer on the team so far this year and his fine floor play is enough to make any rival coach yank his hair out. Experienced Experience is a great asset to any ball player, and this is another mark on the debit side of the ledger for Wayne. He began his career at Plain City junior high and was the star of their team. He was regarded as one of the best prospects to ever enter the halls of Weber high school. He lived up to all expectations and was on the Warrior starting five for two years, gaining all-state recognition his senior year when Weber won the region one crown and carried her colors into the state tournament. He leads all other scorers in ICAC standings so far this year. Wayne's major field in school is physical education and he hopes to continue his schooling and basketball after leaving Weber. teams, are sure to give the Weber lads a good show. The end of that week, Jan. 21 and 22, are marked off as travel days for the wildcat squad. They go to Rexburg, Idaho and meet Ricks Junior college Ricks split a twin bill with Weber last year, losing one game, 98-52. All considered Coach Swenson's boys are slated to give excellent performance on all counts Intramurals By Richard Rounds With basketball and squash touching off activities, intramural athletic activities resumed play this week when Alpha Rho's A team defeated Skull by the score of 31-18 on the hardwoods and the faculty singles and doubles teams won victories on the squash courts. Dorm and faculty were crowned singles and doubles champions respectively in ping pong, which was concluded during the last week of school in fall quarter. Faculty and Sigma were runners up in the tournament. The basketball tournament will be a 16 team, double elimination tournament. Some clubs and teams have entered two squads to make up the 16 teams. Excelsior is the defending champion this year and are reported to have another fine team which is capable of retaining the laurels. Other teams looming strong this year are faculty, gym class, Dorm, and Sigma. Sigma still holds a narrow mar gin over Dorm in total points with 600 to 500. Alpha Rho, faculty, and Phoenix are running close to the leaders and could easily overtake them if they have a good basketball season. Billee Wright, the Signpost's new editor, asked me to write for the paper again, but I refused. "No, no, I said, No, no, no, I dont have time!" It seems that I have found some time and on top of that, I'm a YES man. - Ole Henry "Engen" There I was at the starting marker of the Down-hill ski event. How I got up enough guts to enter the race to compete against a field of forty other good skiiers including the Engen brotherb was beyond me, but there I was with a No. 23 on my back and front. I knew I couldn't nki worth a penny, I just started two months ago, but I guess it was just so that I could tell all of my pals that I had entered in a ski race. The course was Snow Basin's Wildcat" run . . a fast mile. On Your Mark As the time neared for the start of the race, my heart beat like hell and I was all "butterflies." The starter yelled out, "On your marks!" I was ready. Get set!" I was set. "Go!" I was off! The only thing is that the other skiiers had better starts than I did and I was "The Lone Ranger," trailing the rest of the group. "Those guys can't beat me!" I thought to myself, "I'll get 'em!" And my skis slipped from under me. Maybe they could beat me after all! The race was fast . . . time was getting short . . . the whole bunch of skiiers, some of them proving that they could fall too, were about three-fourths of the way down the hill. The only consola tion I gave myself was the though: "Schuss the darn course!" What Was It Henry? I got up and pointed my $15 army surplus skis straight down the hill ... I was on my way . . . wheeeeeeeee! With the wind blowing in my face and whistling in my ears, I passed the main bunch of skiiers on the fly, or should I say so tritely, "like a bolt of greased lightning!" The only three that were left for me to pass were Corey Engen, Olympic star; Alf Engen, Olympic coach; and Jack Reddish, another Olympic star. Who in the world were they? I bent my knees to give less resistance to my skis and to take all of the bumps like shock absorbers, closed my eyes, and prayed . . . "O God, I want to Ogden Blue Print & Supply Co. In 2 Games Two wins over Boise Junior college gives Weber numDer one spot in ICAC standings. Weber wildcats put the double-take on BJC Friday and Saturday, trouncing the Idahoans 62-54 in the first tilt and barely eking out a 65-63 decision over the spirited Boise team in the second. Wayne Cottle, veteran forward for the cats collected 16 buckets, tying scores with up and coming Keith Sewell, who has shown sparkling ability on the courts this season. The second half was a strong test for both teams with the wildcats leading all the time by a slim margin failing to elude the touted Broncos. The biggest lead Weber courtiers were able to muster was only eight points, coming ahead in the last three minutes. Big Reed Peterson and Keith Sewell hit the hoop for two counters, with Sewell and Lloyd Neville each contributing charity tosses, giving the wildcats a 61-53 advantage. Joe Dietrich, Alan Hubinger and Earl Williams each scored for Boise before the local boys could collect any more points and came within one ringer of the cats. Wayne Cottle contributed one tally from the foul line as the game ended. pass those guys." Upon opening my eyes, I saw no one in front of me My nearest competitor was two hundred feet behind me (thanks to God and the Alf Engen Base lac on my skis), the race was in the bag. I could see the finish line. Whoops-A-Daisy ! I poured on the gas and picked up more speed, but damnit! I took a spill five feet before the finish line. "That won't phase me," I said to myself," just pick yourself up and get to the finish!" I did it! Brother, I was the happiest guy on the course, I was the hero, the winner! Lou Holston came over and patted me on the back saying, "Good going, Henry, at least you tried." "At least I tried," I asked. "Didn't you know?" he answered, "while you were in the snow twenty-seven guys passed you!" I've been- crying ever since! SEAT COVER SPECIAL ONLY $27.50 WITH RUBBER PAD Nielson Upholstery 1508 Wash.
