The council is composed of representatives of girl's social, professional, and service clubs and unaffiliated students. The Social Whirl CHANODO The Merry Maids of Chanodo are busily making plans for their annual assembly and formal dance, both to be held on February 27. Rehearsals for the assembly are now under way and the entertainment promises to be very good. IOTA TAU KAPPA The annual Membership banquet of Iota Tau Kappa was held in the LDS Institute of Religion on January 27. The membership oath was taken by each pledge, who then received her individual membership' pin and a boutonniere consisting of a yellow rosebud and green ferns. The new members of Iota are Nola Jean Beus, Betty Blakely, Colleen Clark, Berna Goodwin, Annette Graham, Lorraine Hampton, Lois Holmes, Sue Locke, Anna Mogen-sen Rita Morrison, Joan Owen, Carol Porter. Coleen Price, Nona Lous Shupe, Eloise Steed, Darlene Tingey and Chiyoko Yamaguchi. Iota is now making plans for its annual assembly and dance to be held April 9-10. TIKI KAPA KAPA Tiki Kapa Kapa held its membership ceremony Sunday, February 8, at the home of Joyce Murphy. Those made members were Joyce Stringham, Marie Bingham, Eula Sessions, Delores Caldwell, Frances Warner, Frances Helgesen, Joline Rich, Luana Field, Lolita Field, Marie Farber, Betty McComb, Jean Frost, Kathleen Hall, and Gayle Smith. In a meeting February 4, Phyllis Allen was elected new reporter and historian, Lolita Field was elected as AWS Council representative, and Delores Caldwell was chosen as WAA representative. LA DIANAEDA The salty sailors of the good ship L. D. set sail February 8, 1948, at the home of Laurel Checketts to make their 17 recruits full fledged sailors. They are Helen Underwood, Joanne Taylor, June Webb, Joye Webb, Karma Wangsgard, Jo Ann Stallings, Arlene Storey, Kathleen Burton, Lynette F r o n k, Joyce Kunzler, Joyce Warren, June Her-rick, Joyce Watts, Janet Anderson, Margie Mills, Joyce Nichols, and Elaine MacArthur. After the ceremony, the old and new members joined at Mas and Pas for their membership banquet. After repeating the membership slogan, each pledge was presented with a corsage of red roses and a Sophvita membership torch. Girls officially made members are Lois Bellamy, Mary Ellen Jepson, Lou Dean Haines, Carol. Jost, Lorraine Price, Pamela Raleigh, Evelyn Hill, Clara Smith and Delores Hokt. OTYOKWA Papooses of Otyokwa were initiated at a frivolous held last January 12 in the Women's Lounge. A traditional candlelight ceremony took place at the Institute of Religion, Sunday, February 8, at which time each papoose received a tribal symbol from her big sister and the long-awaited crossed arrow pin, signifying complete membership in Otyokwa. Following the ceremony, the squaws proceeded to the Double J Ranch, where the freshman members found gardenia corsages at their plates, and all enjoyed a chicken dinner SHARMEA Sharmea held its membership banquet Monday evening, February 2, at the home of its adviser, Miss Jeannette Morrell. The event was formal, with the candlelight ceremony at 7:30 and the banquet following at 8 p. m. The banquet was served in the downstairs dining room. Faculty-Student Volleyball Game Opens Coed Week The all-star volley ball team of Weber college coeds has challenged the women faculty to a game in the gymnasium, Monday, February 16, 194S at 5 p. m. as the opening feature of Coed Week. Marva Gregory, faculty captain, says her team is now in top condition and looking forward to a good game. Her starting lineup will include, in addition to herself, Jeanette Morrell, Wilnia Grose, Betty Bond, Betty Williams, Jeanette Draayer. Mae Ogdon. Marian Lund, and Kelon Powell Williams. The faculty cheering section will be on hand to spur their team on with Pearl AUred and Marian Read is cheer-leaders. The student team is composed of m outstanding; girl from every active team in the intramural program. Players will be La Rue Peterson, Gayle Smith, Lu Ann Toller, Nona Lou Shupe, Helen Clifford, Marion Blackinton, Edith Oda, Joyce Baddiey, Joyce Warren, Karma Wangsgard, Glenna Jensen, Joanne Thayne, Mary Lou Williams, and Margaret Stegen. Under the sponsorship of the Woman's Athletic Association, the sports event will be the opening activity of Coed Week. Refreshments will be sold in the bleachers. WAA Offers Sports To Websr Girls The Woman's Athletic Association offers many opportunities in the field of sports to all girls of Weber college for the winter quarter. The feature sport will be basketball, which begins today at 2 p. m. in the gym, Sharmea versus Sophvita, and L. D. versus Otyokwa, Iota versus Soph. Independent, Chanodo versus Tiki Each club, as well as sophomore and freshman unaffiliated teams, will be given a chance to play, being eliminated only when they lose a game. On February 6, "Foul Pitch" was the game of the week as a forerunner of the coming basketball games. Winners were Sharmea, first; Chanodo, second, and La Dia-naeda, third. Squash, a game very much like tennis, will also be played this quarter and offers a lot of fun for all girls.
