Show DEMOCRATIC TICKET. THE PLATFORMS AND CANDIDATES. The candidates of the and Republican parties are now in the field, subject to the decision of the voters on election dav. The issues in the campaign are purely local. National issues are not involved. The cahdir dates of the two parties will be voted for to a great extent because of their fitness or supposed fitness for the" offices for which they have .been nominated. Merit, rather than politics, will count for. more this year than at any .previous election. In some respects the platforms of both parties are all right and beyond honest criticism. The platform,., of the' Republicans, sounds well enougfli, and to the unthinking and prejudiced voter .it is all rig-htbut when they bring out a candidate for mayor "and r$lill v ' in-volv- Election Say, 7u icday, Nov. Last week, speaking of the Republican candidates for city offices, Journal, said that the political bosses who were responsible for the nomination of the candidate for mayor, had, as a matter of policy, allowed some good nominations to be made. Among them was that of the gentleman whose name heads this item and who is the candidate for city treasurer. Our good opinion of Robert A. Moyes, expressed two years ago, has been confirmed by his conduct in office, and now we reiterate it and desire to state that it has been strenghened. He has been tried and not found wanting. When an emergency arose where it became necessary to protect the interests of the people of Ogden, Mr. Moyes was equal to the emergency, and tho people, irrespective of politics owe-hia debt of gratitude. Two years ago wo said: For treasurer, Robert A. Moyes is the candidate of the Republican party. That party could not have made a bet-- " ter selection. Mr. Moyes has served as ' treasurer during two terms and we4' have never heard a whisper of com-- " plaint of his conduct of the office. He has always been equal to the performance of his responsible duties, and has faithfully and honestly accounted for the public funds intrusted to his charge. Mr. Moyes does not regard j public office as a private snap, but works faithfully to the end that he may'' receive the honors and rewards which conscientious devotion to duty always fipally bring.
