Show dixie students celebrate the long pent up energies of the students of the dixie normal broke out last thursday in the form of a rollicking celebration activities began wednesday night when the college students elevated a stuffed effigy representing the third years to the top of the flag pole the atmosphere was too raw at that elevation so the third years objected the college students defended the foot all night and the third years were unable to rescue their forlorn companion thursday morning they retaliated by painting their class numerals on the face of the sugar loaf on being discovered they were attacked by the other classes and gave way before superior numbers during chapel hour the students gave a cleverly conceived program an influenza masquerade was first presented in which leila adair representing miss ensign of the state board of health demonstrated with models the latest styles in flu masks following this the reverend dr fisher impersonated by henry miles gave a display of oratorical fireworks seldom heard in the arid regions of the southwest in the afternoon athletic contests were held on the campus the fourth years outdid the faculty in a rooster fight the third and fourth years ran a donkey race and the girls of the first second and third years ran a relay race miss empey tor for the freshler tresh fresh les was the first arst girl over the tape the first and second year boys engaged in a tug ot of war over a pit tul ful ot of muddy water the first years were out pulled and took their ducking after which they proceeded poled to tn duck the dophles A basket ball game followed in which the second years outclassed the school all other events of the day were only preparatory however to the big vaudeville show of the evening the vaudeville stunts pulled oft off by the various classes were of a high order and showed cleverness and originality in make up and presentation the first years presented the U S step daters doters Do in which misses vera and verna harmon alice pendleton and helen gardner gave a neat flag drill and dance also the three allies by misses helen and anna miles and mary atkin they sang you gotta quit kickin my dog around which was well vell enjoyed the second year class presented a one act play entitled wheres his hat depicting the early married life of mr ar and mrs romney the third years sang some very good class songs their act being called melodies in B sharp never B at the magic grinder by tho the fourth year and college classes represented a group of old maids dissatisfied with the world by paying a fee to dr miller they could be ground in the mill and changed to a ballet dancer a pianist a singer a twin brother whatever they might choose wyatt miles took the part of dr miller the faculty was represented by john T woodbury jr and arthur K hafen in some clever jokes and stories followed by joseph mcallis ter and E at hall in a mutt and jeff stunt mr McAlli mcallisters A B C song was the hit of the evening taken all together it wasa very fine day greatly enjoyed by students and teachers affording real relaxation 4 after several weeks ot of study uninterrupted by recreation other than saturday class work |
