Show t th it t 7 i F y f BANNERS OF suffragettes trade devices of women who paraded streets during the recent conference Lon donAll the professions and trades of women were represented in the procession of suffragettes which took place while tha woman suffrage conference was going here recently banners were carried with cm devices some humorous and some beautiful in design and coloring five hundred lanterns carried by as many women lighted the procession and there was a great variety of cos the cha banner for the lantern to shine upon there were the university girls in caps and gowns with the colors ol 01 their colleges there were the trainee nurses in their long blue or graj cloaks and demure little bonnets there were the pit workers and th factory women of the north with ga shawls over their heads and short tul banner of doctors and surgeons skirts housemaids House maids and parlor maids marched in cap and apron and char women in their usual bonnets and shawls women gardeners appeared in coats and skirts and cooks with their well known high caps concealing the hair the journalists carried a blue silk banner with a white carrier pigeon embroidered broi dered on lt the political speakers for the most part fashionable women bore an elaborate banner with a device representing a ringed hour glass and a glass of water with the motto words words words A golden gridiron gleamed above the cooks A yard measure and a pair of scissors marked the ranks of the shop girls A very pretty device was the wreaths of flowers on long staffs carried by the gardeners the sculptors bore statuettes also on staffs the jewelers banner showed the various ball marks used on silv er the chain makers carried miniature anvils and hammers and specimens of the finished chain singers novelists needlewoman needlewomen needle women teachers and typewriters were some others who were represented |
