Show COLLEGE ATHLETIC OUTLOOK BRIGHT Council Outlines Extensive Program Pro-gram of Activities to be Followed Fol-lowed During School Year Two meetings of the athletic council coun-cil of Dixie College have already been held this term and a comprehensive program of activities outlined. Among future plans discussed thus far is the advisability of including football in the lineup next fall. Practically all schools in this division support football foot-ball aggregations as well us basketball, basket-ball, and it is felt by some that with the the inclusion of football an otherwise other-wise dull period, as far as sports go, would be eliminated locally. Other matters taken up -were practice prac-tice trips for the high school and college col-lege basketball teams. The latter squad is scheduled for a trip to the coast before the regular season starts, playing play-ing teams in and around Los Angeles. It is the intention to purchase a portable port-able radio set for the use of the teams on trips both during practice and regular conference trips. A baseball series will start Monday and will be run off in about three weeks. The eight best players in the school have been chosen captains and will select the teams which will compete com-pete for honors in the elimination series. After the baseball series is out of the way Coach Lcland Hafen will start grooming his men for the basketball teams. Material is promising. On the college squad he will have four men who had experience on the first squad last year. They are: Stratton, Hafen, Wittwer and McAllister. New men from whom much is expected are Mel-vin Mel-vin Fawcctt, Kenneth Cox, Milton Walker, Francis Leavitt, George Snow and George Harmon. For the high school team Coach Hi-fen Hi-fen is not so fortunate. His team will be built around Andrus. Gates. Nelson i and McArthur. Andrus played center j on the regular team last year, whlif J the other three alternated with, regu- Iar players at forward and guard, j Promising new material for the squad includes Wesley Atkin. Merle ' Emniett. Ross Savage. Andrew Pace. I Don and Willard B'.eak. Waiter Brooks. ' Arthur Blake. Andrew McArthur and ! others. i |
