Show OR we 01 PIR PUB dr walter randall pike who had been afflicted with asthma tor for more than 20 years past died at his home in this city at 10 last friday night june 10 dr pike was born at potter heigham county of norfolk england june 7 1848 while a mere lad he came to this country and made utah bis his home during the be lie engaged in various occupations fighting the indians in the meantime and in the early took up the study of medicine becoming thereafter a graduate of the burlington vt medical college and supplementing that with a postgraduate course at the university ot of new york returning to utah after his graduation associated with dr joseph benedict he entered upon the practice of his profession in bait salt lake lator later removing with hla his family to provo and there becoming the first medical superintendent ot of the then newly erected state mental hospital at the close of several years service with that institution he resumed general practice of his profession in utah county was elected a member of the lower house of the legislature ot of 1892 and subsequently removed to st george surviving dr pike are his wife mrs afro hannah dark clark pike one eon ison albert H pike of salt lake three daughters mrs afro florence woodhouse of st george mrs afro annie pike greenwood of idaho and mrs afro hattle hattie oliver of anaconda mont and grandchildren also two brothers john W pike official reporter of the third district court of salt lake and judge edward pike of eureka juab county about twenty sars jears ago dr pike came to st george ind nd established the st george drug co he gradually retired as a practicing physician owing to the condition of his health and latterly did not practice at all except in urgent cases when he could be depended upon it his health permitted dr pike vms as a courtly gendelman gen telman kindly in his disposition and ever willing to serve his activities were limited owing to his physical condition but he could always be depended upon to do his part in all public improvements and movements tor for the public welfare during the war activities tivi ties he lie bought heavily of liberty bonds and was a staunch supporter of the government hla his loyalty to 1 which was unswerving the remains accompanied by mrs pike and other relatives were taken to prove provo sunday morning interment will be made at provo arrangements were being made to have the funeral services held in the tabernacle at that place at 2 p V m on tuesday it was expected that story lodge no 40 4 F and A M 1 I of which dr pike waa was a member would take charge of jot the final services |
