Show Is C isaac chauncey macfarlane died at his home in this city on may 23 1921 he was born at cedar city utah on november 3 1856 1855 a son ot of john menzies menzles and ann C macfarlane his ills father was called to the dixie mission in 1968 and his family accompanied compa com panted nied him to dixie in that year at an early age I 1 0 macfarlane learned the gospel of work and he practiced it throughout his life till falling failing health limited his physical activities tivi ties when 13 years old be he carried mall mail between st george and pinto on horseback on one occasion being so badly frostbitten near pinto that when he arrived there he bad had to be lifted oft off hi lit a horse and rubbed with snow to get the frost out of him he knew what hardship and hard living meant his father was an engineer and music instructor but devoted so much of his time to public service that he did not possess much of this worlds wealth consequently his family knew what hard living meant and they all had to work hard I 1 C macfarlane was married in the st george temple to smith january 6 1877 1 after bearing him five children tour four of whom are living bis his wife died march 6 1891 on march 16 1892 be he married christina forsyth in the bt st george temple and by this wife had three children two of whom are living besides his wife he Is survived by his mother who was 84 years old on the 3rd ard of march last and the following children mrs nellie frost Co alville mrs maud judd laver kin I 1 C macfarlane st george mrs heppy milne st george mrs samuel bleak st george and donald C macfarlane of st george also surviving are 17 grandchildren and the following brothers othera br and sisters john M macfarlane of salt lake city mrs david H morris B S A macfarlane mrs andrew N winsor mrs david it forsha and it urie urle macfarlane st george j miss giss ann macfarlane IV C macfarlane dr M J macfarlane and erastus macfarlane cedar city mrs clarence dark clark rill billmore more mrs tire J C benson Enter enterprise miss jennetta macfarlane salt lake like city and hubert macfarlane acfarlane I of ogden I 1 C macfarlane 1 was called for a mission to europe in 1888 but apostle erastus snow raised objections as bis his services were required so much here that he could not be spared and he was released he served the public in many capacities pa cities his first big work being as engineer and supervisor of the washington dam and canal he lie was afterwards ter wards engineer for the la verkin tunnel and canal the hurricane dam and canal and the enterprise reservoir and canal he was also county engineer tor for many years and city engineer holding this office at the time of his death As an engineer he be proved his good judgment questioned ironed sometimes but always vindicated he gave cool and careful deliberation to his work and when decided went ahead he served as mayor of st george city councilman county commissioner member of the first state land commission under governor wells school trustee and on nearly all committees to locate roads etc ecclesiastically he was a member of the stake high council was superintendent in of sunday schools under bishop james andrus when st george was all one ward was a M I 1 A officer many years and was as identified with all church organizations he was bishop of the st george east ward for 18 years being released a short time before his death on account of falling failing health he took stock in every home bouie enterprise ter prise started here and never refused or shirked in any sieve move made tor for the development of the dixie land cef loved so much bishop macfarlane was a splendid type of man he wag was very blunt and straightforward and this bluntness repelled many at first who afterwards became his warmest friends when they discovered the goodness within him of which speech was vms no indicator when he could not agree with anyone on any matter after consideration Bide ration he be disagreed and there was no hope of ofa changing his opinion ho lie was as one of natures rough diamonds diamonde gentle and kind honest and true of unswerving loyalty to god hie his country his friends and all just principles his memory is revered and bw 94 by dy macy a abd reward his kind kindness vess to them and by many others who loved him tor for his manly qualities just recently he built a beautiful x home hoping to spend a few years 4 with his devoted wife and children 11 whom he loved so much but it was not act to be and he answered the call to a better and more beautiful home than any on earth where he will later have the great joy of meeting those he ie loved on earth never to be again parted from them 1 he ile was a true son of dixie dependable pen dable at all times and has left behind him work that stands as a monument to his memory hie his work we wu evea tb to tug ua ea |
