Show Funeral Services Held In Gunlock Sunday For Hattie E. Bowler GUNLOCK, Utah Bishop Henry Bowler conducted funeral services in the Gunlock ward chapel on Sunday, August 12 at 5 p. m. for Mrs. Hattie E. Canfield Bowler, 63, who died in the McGregor hospital in St. George at noon, Friday, August 10 of complications complica-tions following pneumonia. She had been seriously ill for three weeks. Music numbers were "Sometime We'll Understand" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" by the ward choir, with Mrs. J. L. Bowler Bow-ler soloist for the latter number; vocal selection, "She Sleeps, Gently Sleeps," Mrs. Robert Cox, Mrs. J. L. Bowler, Ivan Hunt and Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Bowler with Mrs. Joseph Neilson at the piano; solos, "In The Garden" by Mrs. Raphael Leavitt, Mrs. Lee V. Leavitt, accompanist; ac-companist; and "Wonderful Mother Moth-er Of Mine" by Vernon Worthen, accompanied by Mrs. Norval Bracken of Enterprise. Speakers were Thomas Abbott of Moapa, Nevada, Ivan Hunt and F. J. Bowler of Gunlock, and Pres-Harold Pres-Harold S. Snow of St. George. All four praised Mrs. Bowler for her kindly, unselfish life, for her service in church and community, and her devotion to her farmly and friends. Closing remarks were by Bishop Bowler. Prayers were by John H. Bowler Bow-ler of Veyo and Lewis Pulsipher of Mesquite. The grave in Gun-lock Gun-lock cemetery was dedicated by Howard Pulsipher of Mesquite. Born January 15, 1882 at Hamb-lin, Hamb-lin, Utah, now known as Mountain Meadows, Mrs. Bowler was a daughter of Moroni and Sarah E. Westover Canfield. The family moved to Gunlock in 1894, when she was aged 12, and she has since made that her home. On January 2, 1902. she became the wife of Harry Hill Bowler, an L D S convert from England, the ceremony taking place in the St. George Temple. There were six children born to this union, four of whom are living. During her entire life in Gunlock, Mrs. Bowler Bow-ler has been a faithful worker in the various ward organizations, and has also been helpful in caring car-ing for the sick. Surviving besides her husband are two sons, Lamond Bowler of St. George, Moroni Bowler of Gunlock; two daughters, Mrs. William Wil-liam Carter of St. George and Mrs. John H. Clark of Gunlock; nine grandchildren; one brother, David Canfield of American Fork, and four sisters, Mrs. Ella Jones of Logandale, Nevada; Mrs. Eva Woodbury of Mesquite, Nevada; Mrs. Edna Jones of American Fork; and Mrs. Irene Mitchell of Salt Lake City. |
