Show Mrs. lola Waite Hunt And Small Daughter Buried Today At Bunkerville Both Die From Injuries Received When Thrown From Car Sundays BUNKERVILLE, Nev. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday), (Thurs-day), for Mrs. Iola Waite Hunt, 29, and small daughter, Arline, who died from injuries received when the pick-up in which they were riding with other members of the family turned over, throwing throw-ing them onto rocks on the side-of side-of the highway near Riverside. Both died at the Clary county general hospital in Las Vegas, where they were taken following the accident. The accident occured Sunday, July 2, when the group were returning re-turning from a holiday on the-shores the-shores of Lake Mead near Overton. Over-ton. Three other children were in the car at the time of the accident acci-dent which was driven by George Hunt, grandfather of the dead! child. These children escaped with injuries and were treated at their home here. Dozed At Wheel Relatives in reporting the accident ac-cident state that George Hunt believes that he "dozed a little" thereby losing control of the car with the result that it catapulted from the highway and threw the six occupants from the seat on. which they were riding. Mrs. Hunt sustained a broken back, from which she died at 2:35 Sunday afternoon, 10 minutes after arriving at the hospital. hos-pital. The daughter, Arline, died Tuesday night from a fractured skull and both bodies were brought to Bunkerville Wednesday Wednes-day night. The other three Hunt children, Gertrude, 10, Lorna, 8, and Berkeley, Berk-eley, 4, suffered bruises and lacerations lac-erations and are receiving medical medi-cal treatment at their homes in Bunkerville. George Hunt was bruised and is suffering from shock as an aftermath of the tragedy. Gone For Work The family group had accompanied accom-panied Alva Hunt to Overton, where he planned to work picking cantaloupes. The children were eager to make the trip, as it was the first time they had seen Lake Mead, relatives report. After spending some time on the shores of the lake, Mrs. Hunt and her four children and George Hunt left in their pickup car, all riding in the front seat to return home. Alva Hunt remained at the ranch where he planned to work. As they drove along highway 91 about 11 o'clock yesterday morning morn-ing at a point known as "Pocket Wash", about 15 miles south of Bunkerville, the grandfather of (Continued on page four) h!a Yaife Hunt Death (Continued from first page) the children lost control of the machine, according to the report of relatives of the family. It struck a railing alongside the road and he turned the wheel sharply and the pickup rolled over once, throwing out all six occupants onto large jagged black stones. The car continued to roll over twice more and was not badly damaged. Others Injured The three other small children were less seriously hurt and were treated by a physician from Overton Over-ton and are at their home in Bunkerville. Their grandfather, who is 59 years old. is reported to be suffering from shock following fol-lowing the accident. Mrs. Hunt was born in Bunkerville, Bunker-ville, December 19, 1909, the daughter of the late Jesse Waite and Mrs. Dora Waite. She was graduated from the Bunkerville high school and had resided in Bunkerville all her life. She is survived by her husband, Alva Hunt; four children, Gertrude, Gert-rude, 10, Lorna, 8, Arline, 6, and Berkeley, 4; her mother, Mrs. Dora Waite of Bunkerville; three brothers, Roy Waite and Glenn Waite of Bunkerville and Noble Waite of Bell, Calif.; seven sisters, Mrs. La Prele Fields, of Las Vegas; Mrs. Iris White, of North Las Vegas; Mrs. Ivan Hunt, of Gunlock, Utah; Mrs. Pierce Jarvis, of Goodsprings; Mrs. Durrell Adams, of Bunkerville and Mrs. Dee Houston and Mrs. Bud Bur- gess, of Mesquite. Funeral services will be conducted con-ducted in Bunkerville today (Thursdav). with Bp. Don Tobler of the L.D.S. church officiating. Interment will take place at Bunkerville. |
