Show Edwin Berto Coates Dies Here Tuesday Nite; Services Held Today Edwin Berto Coates, 53, died at his home shortly after midnight March 19 of coronary thrombosis from which he has been ailing the past year. Born in St. George September 4, 1886, he was the son of Benjamin Ben-jamin Franklin and Eugenia Mc-Arthur Mc-Arthur Coates. He had his district dis-trict and high school training in St. George and in 1908 went to Eureka for employment. Here he met Margaret McFate, daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann Lewis McFate and they were married in Salt Lake City December 22, 1909. They made their home in Burley, Idaho, until the fall of 1929 when they moved to California. Califor-nia. Due to the ill health of his father, the late E. F. Coates, Mr. and Mrs. Coates returned to St. George to make their home in August, 1934. He suffered a severe heart spell one year ago and spent several days under hospital treatment. On last Saturday Satur-day he had a slight attack, but had sufficiently improved Monday to want to be at work again. He spent the day at canal cleaning on his farm and came home over fatigued. His condition became acute following a severe spell on Tuesday forenoon and though he rallied during the day, death came suddenly at 12:10 p.m. Surviving besides his wife is one married son. Frank Coates of Pittsburgh, Calif., and one married mar-ried daughter, Mrs. Boyden Faw-oett, Faw-oett, St. George; his mother, Mrs. Eugenia Coates, who is ill at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Reba SorCnson in Los Angeles. Besides his sister, Mrs. Sorenson, are three brothers, Arthur Coates and James Coates of Phoenix, Ariz, and LeGrande Coates of Los Angeles. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 3 p.m. in the south ward chapel with Bp. James Andrus in charge. |
