Show W chink BEE IN COLUB william brink was drowned in the colorado river near the old pearce pearci ferry last friday afternoon between two and three while attempting to ford the river on horseback brink foremen on the arizona strip tor for the jaquita cattle co in which he alap had an inter est went down to the river to receive head of cattle that were to be driven over from the other side of the river he was accompanied by lee cox and walter of this city and two other men cos cox bad had gone out there to sell a ford car to brink on arriving at the river they saw taw the cattle they were to receive on the opposite side aide of the river the river was in heavy flood and all attempts by the codr men who bad had charge of the cattle on the opposite side to drive them across were futile the cattle simply refusing to be driven across seeing this brink said to lee cox they cant drive them cattle catt leover over lets go and help them cox agreed and they entered the turbulent stream when nearly half halt way across the horse cox was riding became fractious and cox saw it would be dangerous to try and drive him farther so he lie and brink returned A few minutes later brink said 1 I am going across to get those cattle s he entered the river and got about half way across when bis his horse was seen to go over sidewise as if 11 its legs were pulled down stream both horse and rider going under they reappeared a moment later with brink clinging to the horses neck and again went under and except for a moment when the back of brinks head and part of the saddle were noticed they were not seen again and it is doubtful it the body will be recovered as the colorado baa has a reputation for refusing to give up the bodies of its vi victims brink could not swim the sad news was conveyed to mrs brink who has been teaching school near mount trumbull and she and her little son accompanied cox and to this city william brink was 31 years old a native of prescott arizona where his mother is still living he was married to edna shew show at prescott arizona jan 20 1917 they have one child a son born barn in st george nearly three years ago he lie had been part owner and foreman tor for the ia na quita cattle co about five years he lie was a splendid young fellow honest and as straight as a die he was a white man through and through respected and esteemed by all who knew him much sympathy is felt hero hore tor for the bereaved widow and child mrs brink left for the ranch wed morning to gather up her belongings and will return here and then proceed to join her mother mrs mra S A jackson at prescott arizona |
