Show Quadruplets Born At Sequoia National Park SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., June 29 Regarded rare events - in the wildlife world, two sets of bear quadruplets were recently born in Sequoia National Park. Natural ists say such multiple births have been seldom .recorded. The National Park Service regional office of the Interior Department De-partment was informed that the two mother bears appeared during May with four cubs each. Two off-spring are the usual average of a litter but three are not uncommon. "Skinny", the appellation given to one of the mothers, is 16 years old, and since 1930 has given birth to 15 cubs. "Skinny" is one of the largest brown bears in the park area and weighs 350 pounds. The cubs range from three to five pounds. The second mother is known as "Goofy", weighs about 225 pounds and is seven years old. Last year she had three cubs, adding another distinction to her maternal activities inasmuch as bears usually only have litters every two years. |
