Show South Ward Relief Society Observes Annual Birthday Anniversary Tues. The south ward relief society observed ob-served the annual birthday anniversary anni-versary of that organization with a varied program in the chapel Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. The fields of relief society activity in song and reading was the theme of the program. Chorister Ruby Morris, organist Ada Cannon, and Mrs. Zora S. Jarvis were in charge. Numbers included congregational congregation-al singing; prayer, by Mrs. Amber Schmutz of the stake board; presentation pre-sentation of the ward relief society officers of the south ward, including Mrs. Rosilla B. Andrus, president; Mrs. Flora Brooks, and Mrs. Marvel Pendleton, counselors; coun-selors; Mrs. Asineth J. Cottam and Mrs. Lydia H. Snow, secretary secre-tary and assistant and Mrs. La-Fave La-Fave Leany, magazine agent. Mrs. Roma Esplin read an original theme in verse by Mabel Jarvis suggesting the fields of relief society work. Mrs. Juanita Brooks gave a personal tribute to the present general president of relief re-lief society work in the church, Mrs. Amy Brown Lyman of Salt Lake City, eulogizing her life, preparation, talents and work. Mrs. Rachel L. Lytle and Mrs. Jetta Huntsman typified the "Teacher Topic" and theology departments, de-partments, while Mrs. Ruth Miles sang, "O, My Father" with pantomime panto-mime interpretation by Miss Marian Woodard. Vocal duet "We Love Our Work" sung by Mrs. Jetta Huntsman and Mrs. Viva Covington introduced Maude R. Woodard, Rosena Blake and Maude C. Gardner of the work and business sessions. Literary lessons were presented by Miss Emily Brough and Mabel Jarvis, with a tribute to Lucy Mack Smith written by Eliza R. Snow and "Immortality" by Victor Vic-tor Hugo, read respectively. Home relations was posed by Mrs. Zina Reid, Mr. and Mrs. Marcell Schmutz and the Henry Crosby infant, Mrs. Flora Brooks, Mrs. Byron Taylor and small son, while Mrs. Melba Baker and Mrs. Alice Cannon sang, "The Sweetest Story Ever Told". Social security work was posed by Mrs. Snyder and Mrs. Smith, with Mrs. Lewis Pec-tol Pec-tol and Mrs. Keith Ross singing the theme song of the welfare workers. The benediction by Mrs. Rodney Ashby concluded the program, pro-gram, after which a plate lunch with hot chicken pie, the relief society birthday cake and frappe was served to 123, who attended. Each relief society officer of the ward was presented with a corsage cor-sage and each ward block teacher received a floral symbol of ap-I ap-I preciation. The following members mem-bers of the stake relief society board were also presented with corsages: Mrs. Amber Schmutz, Mrs. Laura Gardner Snow, Mrs. Rodney Ashby, Mrs. Leah Frei, and Mrs. Irene Everett. |
