Show UTAH & PACIFIC Salt Lake Herald. The Utah & Pacific is now about fourty-fiye miles out from Milford. This leaves but thirty miles to be constructed con-structed to reach the proposed terminus termi-nus at the State line. At the slow rate of one-half mile a day the road could be completed by May 1st easily. Sixty-days Sixty-days would make the date April 20th, so it can be readily seen that there will be no trouble in finishing the road by-May by-May day. The contract calls for its completion by June 1st, but it is understood the company wishes to finish the work as quickly as possible, and there is a possibility that the force will be increased in-creased to such numbers as to build a mile a day. This would finish the road on April 1st. The securing of ties has been the one great obstacle so far and the contractors contract-ors have experienced great delays in that respect. When the work of track-laying track-laying has languished, however, the force has been going back and surfacing surfac-ing up the completed track, so that when the rails are laid through to the terminus there will be little additional work to be done, as the line will be in splendid physical condition for the regular operation of trains. The order has been made for a more lively and regular shipment of ties, and if this can be accomplished the word will be given to increase the force and rush the work through. Much depends upon the completion of the Utah & Pacific, for as soon as it is accomplished the other line, Utah, Nevada & California, will start to build through Lincoln county. No doubts have been expressed that the latter road will be built, but the general gen-eral opinion of all railroad men interested inter-ested is to the effect that there will be no stopping at the State line of the road that is destined to reach California, |
