Show Thursday, May 21, liM2 fOlCE OF SI1AZ0N THE Letters from Afar in the serv-- , net velcomed only by imare ice mediate family members, but by friends and acquaintances in the enure community. Following are excerpts from letters recently Litters from bojs Hawaii Alta MiKtain, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wells Mecham of Edgemont towho is stationed in Hawaii, with other Utah boys of gether th National guard, writes: "The Hawaiian Islands are truly a paradise. The ocean and rhv are each so blue that they melt into ia.h other, auu at aun s t he in, an b deep purple. You would l"e it, if you could see it. The preen of the growth here is much deeper than the green in the vegetation at home and long rows of truck garden vegetables and Pineapples stretch as far as ihe eye can see without a weed to mar their beauty. You'd have to see it to believe that it is real. "Our Chaplain, Theodore E. Curtis holds the rank of Major and has been in military service for many years. He Is very kind and good natured and seldom looks at one without smiling. He has all of the religions of the battalion under bis supervision so you can imagine the size of his Job, but he has scheduled his work so that he can meet with the Utah boys about 10:30 Sunday morning. We hold services out in the field near our guns; the Sacrament table is the green grass and it makes me think of Sunday School at Giles Ranch back home, except for the guns. They are trying to arrange for services in a church so probably in the future we may lie able to meet in one. That's just morrow morning one day's run for this gang, and that says nothing of the bread, vegetables, and fruit we have. We have the best bread you ever tasted, mother, Harvey wants to blow the candles out so the These won t find ub. mosquitoes and our pet mouse are mis-quite- r- -a pests. At Sea Jesse Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Allen. Vineyard who is in the Navy sent Mothers Day sunny south. The south and the Southern people I found to be extremely fascinating with their peculiar talk and expressions. At times I have to ask them to repeat themselves but they don't sewn to mind. They also find us very interesting and have trouble understanding us. The hospitality is beyond of the southern repute. They will do most anything to show the soldiers a good time, and I am sure that our stay here will be enjoyable. Atlanta as you know was the scene of one of the greatest battles of the Civil War, upon which Gone With the Wind was based. The buildings shown In the in picture are still Btandlng Grants Park, in addition to many other museum features. Excerpts from other letters received from boys in the service will be published from time to time Orem Business Men Meet Attend State-Wid- e On Price Control Retailers, Wholesalers Given To June First to Complete Price Lists and wholesale Orem retailers merchants were among the 576 Utah business men to attend the Inucheon meeting sponsored by the Salt Lake chamber of commerce Monday in the ,Newhouse hotel. Also attending was Orland Pyne, Clerk of the Orem City rationing board. Tbe meeting was conducted hy Gus P. Backman, state rationing director, and James P. Davis of Washington, D. C., head of the O. P. A. retail price division, was principal speaker. Mr. Davis told his audience that while the maximum price regulation might reduce margins of profit. It would also reduce the hazards of doing business and avert a wave of business failures arising from spiraling prices. It will provide, said Mr. Davis stability for the business man. You will no longer have to gamble on the merchandise you buy. You can devote yourself to your business Instead of worrying about Inventory losses. Utah retailers and wholesalers have been given until June 1 to complete their lists of merchandise offered for sale during March and the price placed upon them at that time. The lists are then to be posted In their store for the consumers to see. The price ceilings have been placed as of March and will remain there for the duration. Among Orem business men to attend the meeting were Evan Wilberg, Oliver Johnson, Peter Talbot, and Theron Kirk. Sight Test For Washington Stenos Dll.
